I would think he would return to that type position instead of OC. In any case it is regrettable for all involved that these firings took place. A firing is always evidence that at some level the employee and the employer failed to mech . It does not mean they are bad coaches who will never succeed. They were all very dedicated hard working coaches, and I can only hope they achieve all the success in their future efforts in coaching or otherwise.
There is no doubt that Jay will be talking about this today on his show. Would anyone who will be listening mind letting us outside the viewing area what he might have to say about it and whether or not he feels like speculating on who mgiht be coming in.

He said basically the same thing that many here are saying. He is not happy to see anybody lose a job but that is the way it is. A paraphase of what he said was, "The business side of football is tough". He also said that he requested an interview with coach Bustle for tomorrows (Tuesday 12/12) show. They did not get a response from coach Bustle as of the last I heard on the show (now 4:20 P.M. on Monday) I would suspect that Bustle is pretty busy right now and he may not be able to give Jay (or anybody else for that matter) too much time in the next few days.

Well, if they give Hunley the helm, then I'll steal Jay's thoughts and say the Cajuns have ZERO chance of winning next year.

If they can't hit the target they are paid to hit, they get sacked. If they hit more targets than they think you paid for, they leave you for the next contract.

As just1more fan, I feel bad for these guys and their families. I believe they did give their best to us, and we gained from the experience. Most coaches know they are on temporary assignment. Bustle is ultimately responsible for football at UL, and if he thinks taking that drastic of a measure is warranted, then so be it.
Coach Bustle is ultimately responsible! Thank you for saying that. I've been saying that since early October.

I don't believe that anyone would argue that point. Bustle is the "boss" and as the "boss" he needs to have a desk sign similar to the one Harry Truman had on his desk...THE BUCK STOPS HERE!

I believe that Bustle understands this, since I cannot recollect any firing of assistant coaches previously, and he wants to insure that he has the personnel on hand for success.

I think you may be overly impressed with your October revelation. I felt the day we gave him the keys to the football team, he became "ultimately responsible". Oh... but you are welcome.

Many on here have defended him and the staff at every turn. I thought you were one of them. I may be wrong.

What? I'm not saying I told you so unless you were one of the excuse makers or cheerleaders. A head coach is like a president of a company. Ultimately everyhting is your fault. Almost everyone knows that. Heck someone on here the other day was blaming the kids for dropping passes.

At Georgia he was an Assistent head coach and O-line coach, not a defensive coordinator

Along those lines, what about the ex-North Texas coach, Darrell Dickey? I think I remember someone saying he and Bustle were friends. His defenses at UNT were usually pretty good. Maybe he'd consider being DC here. Who knows...

As the son of a former coach, I understand the fleeting nature of "job security" in this business. That is why so many jump so often to improve their situation. That is also why there is such a strong fraternal bond among coaches. They know they may someday have to ask each other for a new job.

UL Ragin' Cajuns football coach Rickey Bustle announced the dismissal of four assistant coaches - offensive coordinator Rob Christophel, defensive coordinator Brent Pry, receivers coach Brian Crist and cornerbacks coach Terry Sims - Monday after a 6-6 campaign. UL was the preseason favorite to win the Sun Belt title.

"There are so many positives surrounding the university and our football program," Bustle said. "Our team will embrace these chances."

While only time will tell what type of impact the decisions will have on the program, former Cajuns defensive tackle Michael Moore was indifferent on the decision.

"I really liked those coaches," said Moore, who played 2001-05. "They were really nice people, and they worked really hard at what they were supposed to be doing. It's not always the coaches' fault. Sometimes it's on the players."

Bustle, who has five coaches on staff, has not set a timetable for filling the open positions.

Remember what things were like before they got here? So even if you are happy that these guys lost their jobs, in the public eye, no less, keep it to yourselves and let these guys leave with some dignity. Thanks.
