to reiderate: thanks to these coaches for what they have done to represent my school and for helping progress my school's football program.
It does kind of stink to get canned before Christmas. I kind of wish he would have waited but then again that's life.

Athletics know no seasons. Well they don't know holiday seasons, but they do know recruiting seasons, and spring practice seasons, etc. Which is exactly why they had to do this now. At least some of these guys will, in some manner, be able to enjoy the holidays because they aren't working. At least not traveling, they will probably be working the phones to try to find openings on other staffs.

This is probably also the time of year where there is a lot of movement in this profession.

That is a fact. I don't think anyone is being meanspirited about this firing. I hate to see people lose their jobs, I feel terrible for their families, and I sincerely wish them the very best. But, not only do schools fire coaches, coaches fire schools. If better opportunities come along, many assistants leave without so much as a goodbye. Coaches are hired assasins. If they can't hit the target they are paid to hit, they get sacked. If they hit more targets than they think you paid for, they leave you for the next contract.

As just1more fan, I feel bad for these guys and their families. I believe they did give their best to us, and we gained from the experience. Most coaches know they are on temporary assignment. Bustle is ultimately responsible for football at UL, and if he thinks taking that drastic of a measure is warranted, then so be it.

They were great employees and will be missed. however, the company would not continue to grow and prosper with those folks in place. therefore, they were let go now, as opposed to waiting until it was too late.

i think this is very similar to what is happening at UL. Almost like, "We couldn't have done it without them, but now, we can't do it with them"
Very well put....sucks, but very well put.
This is the first time I've ever got to meet, and become friends with a coaching staff...and its hard to see this happen. These guys were quality individuals, and its just a tough time right now. But I really think your post hit the nail on the head. I hope these guys land on their feet, and find jobs very quickly. I had spoke to some of the coaches this weekend....they didn't see this coming. Its a tough tough time for them.

C Scelfo was a defensive coordinator at Georgia when he took the job at Tulane.

I would think he would return to that type position instead of OC. In any case it is regrettable for all involved that these firings took place. A firing is always evidence that at some level the employee and the employer failed to mech . It does not mean they are bad coaches who will never succeed. They were all very dedicated hard working coaches, and I can only hope they achieve all the success in their future efforts in coaching or otherwise.

There is no doubt that Jay will be talking about this today on his show. Would anyone who will be listening mind letting us outside the viewing area what he might have to say about it and whether or not he feels like speculating on who mgiht be coming in.

He said basically the same thing that many here are saying. He is not happy to see anybody lose a job but that is the way it is. A paraphase of what he said was, "The business side of football is tough". He also said that he requested an interview with coach Bustle for tomorrows (Tuesday 12/12) show. They did not get a response from coach Bustle as of the last I heard on the show (now 4:20 P.M. on Monday) I would suspect that Bustle is pretty busy right now and he may not be able to give Jay (or anybody else for that matter) too much time in the next few days.

Well, if they give Hunley the helm, then I'll steal Jay's thoughts and say the Cajuns have ZERO chance of winning next year.

Coach Bustle is ultimately responsible! Thank you for saying that. I've been saying that since early October.
