---------Blue Dawg---(BTW the Blue Dog concept and sequential art was/is done by UL graduate George Rodigue----He is a huge Cajun fan and was named as an outstanding graduate)-------Our history has been with our former president one of just not pushing campus expansion and the stifling of the athletic programs---Since the arrival of Joseph Savoie, the campus has exploded---Buildings have taken on a new renovated beauty---Dorms have gone from crappy rat holes to luxury apartment settings-----The Student Union is undergoing a massive expansion/renovation----I think you have seen some renderings of the campus master plan which will take UL according to our architect to a level of one of the most advanced and beautiful campi in the country----In the coming weeks the Master Athletic plan will be introduced with the Academic, Medical, weight training, locker room , and Stadium expansion projections---Who would not be totally Jazzed?????

The main difference is that the new student fees for the Master Plan are mandatory for students who attend the university. Money that people contribute to the Athletic Foundation is voluntary, not mandatory.

I view student self-assessed fees the same way I view taxes. Taxes are not necessarily a bad thing. Taxes can be used for good purposes, such as maintaining our public infrastructure, funding the public school system and the higher education system, and financing a top-quality military. However, any taxes collected by our governments must be used in a wise manner, and the people must hold their governments accountable for their ways the governments spend the taxpayer money.

Student self-assessed fees can be used to help the university's athletic program, fund campus beautification, student organizations, and other useful programs. Any fees collected by the university must be spent wisely, and the students & the SGA must hold the university accountable for the ways they spend the students' money.

If I was still a student at Louisiana Tech, I would not automatically be in favor of a student self-assessed fee proposal just because Tech's administrators and the SGA say it's a good idea. I need to research the proposal and determine if the university wisely spent the fees I paid in the past. I love my Alma Mater, and I want the university to succeed and thrive. However, I also want my university to be accountable for the way they spend the students' money. I hope everyone on the board who is overwhelmingly in favor of the fee increase that just passed will demand the same accountability from your university.

You don't know Z. Outside of a few choice adjactives that is probably exactly what he said.

This isn't forcing anyone to give to his alma mater.

I happen to have two at school at UL & I encouraged them to also vote for the fees. I also pledged to pay for their student fees if they carry a GPA which warrants it. Why? Becuase I understand what it will do to improve the university's standing throughout the region. I also believe that if there are going to be improvements, then those most affected or helped by those improvements should at least help carry the burden of the load. I commend the students who got out & voted for these university improvements.

so, I calculated that we will get at minimum $1 million per fall and spring semester, saw one UL person on the SunBelt BBS board calculate as high as $1.8 million (assuming that's also for the normal fall and spring semesters). Taking into account that $1-1.8 million range per fall and spring semester, added to whatever we get from the summer and winter-intersession semesters, how long will it take to fund this master plan using these student fees? Keep in mind that one figure I saw by a UL fan said the Athletic master plan by itself will be around $80 million. My other question is whether or not this student fee will be the only source of funds for the Master plan, or does the university have other avenues to help contribute to this plan? If the student fee is the sole source of revenue for this master plan, I calculated that it would take at least 20-25 years to fund the Athletic Master plan alone.

Peace out y'all. Be happy, cuz Tuesday's almost here! God Bless!
