Hey Z. Now that the plan passed, you no longer have to keep it under wraps. I heard they are going to officially introduce it as the Rey Authiment master plan & vision for the future. Could you give us a little drum roll & maybe bring out the pic one more time for posterity's sake. Isn't it wonderful to know your old mentor was the one behind the whole movement.
CM you are probably right about the count, I thought it was closer to three hundred. I would think at least 90% voted for it, and those who did not probably did not vote against it. Most of these athletes have a boyfriend, girlfriend that they have a heavy influence on, say 50%. So there you have it 180 + 100 is more than the the balance. IMO no athletes not passing, so having Division One Sports pays for itself again and again for this university.
I never said that this was athlete driven, I said they were the difference, and I still maintain that.
Isn't everybody excited. This by far, is the best time in the history of the University of Louisiana, and we are here to witness and be a part of it!
God bless America and Louisiana!
Hammer I read in the thread that the fee will run until it is repealed. So it pretty much will go on forever. At some point they will have to increase the value to keep up with inflation, and that is probably when it might get repealed.
Long term athletics need an independent source of revenue, and so does academics. We can no longer count on the state for much help cause God knows there is a horse ranch in Rapids parish that needs to be included on some politicians slush fund list, I mean economic development list.
This is a monumental step change event. It is a massive financial lift for the university and the Acadiana community.
As a move going forward, I see this as an opportunity for alumni and the community to be investment partners with the UL students. The dollars that will circulate in the local economy as a result of this vote, are significantly meaningful to the community. When "all things UL" become presented to the community at-large, we need to participate, invest, support and help in every way available. The students have voted to support UL. The rebound effect from the community needs to quadruple that commitment.
I would announce this to the area community as a commitment that UL students recognized and made as an investment in Lafayette and Acadiana, not just UL. Local businesses need to reciprocate and provide even greater support to UL and UL students.
