    Sound familiar?

Word I'm getting is that the agreement of the financial package for Scelfo at Tech was done by Dooley without Oakes' knowledge or approval.

Look, there are some things in this particular situation that a lot of you don't know, don't understand and probably don't want to know because it's easier to point a finger and blame.

But if you want to blame someone in this case, blame the slimeball who agreed to come and coach here, asked that nothing be done til after the first of the year because if he breached his contract at Tulane, there would have been a penalty for him to pay at TU, accepted a courtesy car from UL and then sold himself out to the highest bidder.

No one dragged their feet on signing a contract. We pushed it back to help him out.

We made a commitment to this guy and he made one to us........and then he broke his word.

Not the kind of guy I'd want working for me.

If he'd screw us now, he'd screw us later. In the long run, we're going to be better off without a guy like that.

Compare that with Fouquier. He was going to come here for about the same amount of money. When FIU's new coach came aboard, he offered significantly more to Fouquier than we could pay. Did that stop Fouquier from coming here? No. Why? He has integrity.

Let's move on. The one we hire will be the right guy for us.
    Very Very True!!!

I never mind an education in facts, and in your position you have a whole lot more than I do. But, as for fans wanting to can ADs and Coaches... "LSU people" wanted to can Saban, then Skip, then Miles... regardless of success. And Oakes may not have approved Derek's hiring scheme, but Reneau did.

I don't disagree with the "let's move on" with a new OC, nor that Scelfo is an "opportunist" (albeit, they all are and it is only a matter of time and opportunity). I am summing up years of frustration that cannot be saddled on anyone but the Commander in Chief.

Bring on the good news about the new UL OC...

    No he didn't.

We offered Scelfo. He accepted. Tech offered more. Scelfo told Tech we offered to match their offer (not true).

THEN the extra 25K came to the table. The AD and Prez found out after the fact.

Can Bustle make offers that the AD (ha) and Prez don't know about, and then ask for forgiveness later?

Scelfo is a man of questionable character, if this is how he played us.

I cannot say that I am not impressed with Tech's fast actions on getting their coaching staff together. Especially, if it is true that Brent Indest has been named their new RB coach.

My grief is that we are not set up with a war chest that allows us greater latitude. Our only options are with private funding and we are not doing everything possible. Who is responsible for that?

Then we don't need Scelfo. Who else is a gem in the rough out there we could get?

As for the first line, if you read BOP correctly, Scelfo didn't just play us, he played Tech too, for an extra $25K.

As for your second. Call Gerald Hebert. There exists a fund within the UL Foundation that serves the purpose of kicking in for coaches salaries. Maybe it lacks marketing, maybe it lacks a snazzy acronym like TAF, and maybe it doesn't print out decals for your pickup, but it is there and it needs our $$$.

If this experience teaches us anything, WE HAVE TO TAKE ACTION ON OUR OWN.

Why is that kind of bluff considered great poker playing but "bad character" negotiations? I'm not making a real value judgement one way or another, but business is business. And coaching is their business. They have to maximize their return, don't they? Coaching is a cruel business too. Doesn't take much to find yourself fired and looking for a new job.

The important issue here is our administration's lack of commitment to the program. We'll continue facing these sorts of problems until they step up to the plate.

I agree with you on everything except the part about us continuing to face these types of problems until the administration steps up to the plate.

We will continue to face these problems until the head administrator retires or just goes away.

I do agree that business is business but I don't think business was ever supposed to mean bad character like it usually does today. I also think maximizing your return is the object but if it's done with character is wouldn't be a cruel business.

At first, I was somewhat let down with the news that Scelfo was going to La. Tech instead. After letting it sink in and hearing what transpired, I'm glad we have an opportunity to get someone else. I trust that Coach Bustle knows what he is looking for and will get someone that will carry out his vision for the offense. In this situation, I don't see how we can blame the Pres. I'm for more support of our football program as a whole coming from the top, just like most people here but I think he is showing more support than we used to have and we must let Coach Bustle carry out the plan. Our team success on the field comes from #1. TALENT (recruiting) #2. HEAD COACH and #3. Assistant Coaching.

I like that thought and agree.
