Christophel was being paid between 80 and 85,000 per year, plus they allocated funds to increase the coaching salary for our new hires, so you can just about imagine how much he'll be making at LA TECH.

When Dooley took over at tech, he wanted more money for assistents so it looks like he got what he wanted.

Nice pull...He is well thought of at that post, and is talked about every once in a while on the Houston sports talk radio; where he might end up. I noticed that the head coach there just re-up'd until 2012 or something like that. Basically means that Major isn't gonna take over there, not to mention that he is a little young to be a HC. But, there is tons of speculation that he is just waiting around for one of the top positions (OC/OB Coach, etc.) at Texas so he can work under Mac Brown, and potentially take that job several years down the road when Mac leaves. Not sure if there is any credence to that, or if its just talking heads/Longhorn fans starting rumors or whatever. but, you are right, he is a good very YOUNG, SUCCESSFUL coach.

Don't quite know if we could pay Applewhite what he wants, but then again, I'm not to sure that any of the "Top" College programs are going to take a chance on a "Young Buck" like Major. One year as OC at Rice might not be enough credentials to Bump him up to a Top 10 or 15 Programs. Maybe one more stepping stone, like the Cajuns, would help him Move Up!! I think Major could do well here, I'm sure the players would enjoy seeing a fresh/young face who's HUNGRY to prove himself. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I agree that he is being "Looked At" but I still don't believe LSU or Bama would hire him. The minute anything went wrong, the Ligers and Elephants would go BA-ZURK on the kid. Those programs want SUCESS and they want it NOW. They want PROVEN leaders and they're not about giving "Trial Runs". That's why I say, Come on Down to Laffy Major, gurantee you'll enjoy your stay.

I think that being that Rice has won a CWS recently, and now their football team has gone to a bowl game, and they have extended their HC, it is fairly obvious that they are giving more attention to athletics. that being said, i would imagine that if they feel like they have a "diamond in the ruff" with Major, then they will keep him. I don't think that he would come to UL where he will be in a worse conference (only be perception, not by SB v. CUSA head to heads this year), and he will probably be paid less. Rice is a private university with a good bit of cash, and I am almost certain that they could outbid us for an OC. I think it would likely be a great hire, but i don't know that it would be likely to happen.
