Turbine,
I will disagree with you some on this point of view. Having two from that same state is not really that bad, and would build on rivalries; but once it gets past 2 in a state the size of Louisiana (or Mississippi) it begins to lose national appeal. That is really what led to the old Southwest Conference dying. It became too regional to appeal to fans throughout the country, and in a market driven by national viewing audiences (ESPN, Fox, ABC, etc, etc) and the almighty dollar; Houston versus Rice and SMU wasn't good enough. In smaller conferences like the Belt or CUSA, a regional appeal is good since we all operate on smaller budgets; so having closer rivals works to our advantage. Having 3 schools like Tech, Tulane and UL in a conference would definitely be pushing the limits, and would have to be offset with good matchups from Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, for it to work. Otherwise we might as well be in the Southland with 3 or 4 other schools from Louisiana! Blastphamy I know!! And there is no way I'm advocating that. Just a long-winded way of saying 2, maybe 3 would be doable IMO. But not more!

Oh.....Brother! It's amazing what 1 poll does to people. Well, I'm glad y'all are finally content in the SBC then.
Its very simple. CUSA 3x the bowl tie-ins. Until SBC gets those it will always be considered the lesser conference.
CUSA bowl eligible teams are 2-19 against FBS OOC. As few as 2 may be bowl eligible this year.
You are propably correct when speaking about preception. When I look at who is the better conference I am kinda old fashion and like to look at reality such as who has a winning record in head to head match ups on the field. Just because CUSA may have one are 2 more bowl tie ins does not make their teams better.
