Default ROUX: OT Jaron Odom commits to Louisiana

I was looking on scout.com and noticed this guy was given an offer and has interest in us and memphis. What do you guys think are our chances are of landing him? He is huge.

    3 star
    6-6
    343 pounds

    Also...

We NEED CB's! What do you guys think about this guy Moses Jenkins? He looks like a good player but don't know if he'll come around.

OTBranden Curry 6'6 300 is a guy that I would like to get, rivals shows he has medium interest in us but some big schools are in on him.

DE Jeremy Cook 6'4 240 from baker is another guy that I would really like to see in a cajun uniform

John Owens 5'8 180 from east st john. He is a smaller guy but anyone who has seen him can tell you he has some power

As for as more local guys however Grant Flemming S/LB STM, Lance Kelly Athlete/WR STM, Jordan Landry RB Crowley

CB's how about Terrell Cole he is a JUCO from Cali that looks like he has some skills but according to rivals no offer is on the table.

Looking way ahead the class of 2008 in LA will be good and hopefully we can capitalize on it...QB Jordan Jefferson Destrehan, QB James Landry Assumption, also athletes Kyron Benoit from Crowley and Kydell Andrus from Carencro, Carencro also has Alonzo Landry who is a stud at RB

Another thing I wanted to add when ya'll see an offensive lineman don't always think a guy is great because he has great size and is using his weight to block someone. Look at the feet and the wya they get to the guy they are fixing to block. A lot of times in high school you will see guys using a big weight advantage over a d-line who at the high school level a lot of time is not that big. O-line is a tough position because it is a lot more mental than a lot of people think, adjusting to the speed of the college level is tough because you have to adjust to blitz pickup, get a little quicker pulling out, and as an o-lineman you have to learn in college that your not going to over power everyone like you did in high school.

A lot of times fans (I will include myself in that) get excited about a guy who is 6'6 or 6'7 300 plus...but I like getting guys that might only be in that 6'5 range that weight about 250-265 because you can develope them and when you put the weight on a guy you know he is doing it the right way. When you take that 250lb guy and you put 20 to 30 lbs on him you know he did not put on cheeseburger weight. ok rant off lol

    I found some Film on Jaron Odem;

He's big and strong but, he seems to be inconsistent on his intencity and he is way too high off the ball. Besides that he seems to be a good player who has excellent agility and seems to be able to move very well for a big man. I think he would be a big pick up for the cajuns, and he would be able to join his ex-team mate Frantz Accime; who sat out this year to rehab his knee and become academically eligible. Pipeline gentlemen; it all starts with pipelines.

I watched the film and your right he does stay to high. The intencity might be a lot because of the competition, I know he is in Florida so he is playing against very good players every week but what I mean is he is so much bigger and stronger than the guy he is going against that he hasn't had to go hard every single play. That is all correctable and he would be a good fit here esp. with the loss of Cox after this year.

Your right about pipelines, you can never have enough of them.

No he is but look at how much smaller the guys are that he is mauling in the clips...if he is able to do that with guys who are 250 plus then we can talk but when you go against guys that are equal to you, you have to play good technique

Good point. However, don't you think that if this guy has this natural size and talent that we would pick him up in a second. You can coach form and technique. Here's what you can't coach: Talent, size, speed. You secure those 3 things in a high school recruit and you can teach the rest.

Oh I agree...I wouldn't turn this guy down. Just looking at it and throwing in my 2 cents.Teach him to stay low and I think he could be a monster because if you look at him with his size and he is steal pulling out as a lead blocker.

  10. UL Football Re: ROUX: OT Jaron Odom commits to Louisiana

UL assistant football coach Brian Jenkins and many of his Cajun staff mates traveled to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., last summer to stage a football camp.

Because of a relationship developed at that camp, the Ragin' Cajuns have the biggest member of their anticipated 2007 prep recruiting class.

Offensive tackle Jaron Odom of Hollywood, Fla., measured at 6-foot-5 1/2 and 343 pounds at a prep combine in Boca Raton, became UL's eighth verbal commitment Wednesday.

Jenkins and Odom, one of several heavily-recruited players out of Boyd H. Anderson High in Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., struck up a relationship during the camp.

"He's the guy that offered me first, and that was important," Odom said. "He and I talk a lot. I call him almost every day."

Odom is the fourth offensive lineman among the Cajuns' verbal pledges and the fourth player from Florida. He's also the sixth player to commit to UL from a group that made official visits to the campus during December's opening weekend.

No; but I can remember in the not-too-distant past when we were all excited to have one [1] announced committment before signing day. Now we are 6 weeks away from signing day and wondering why we have only eight. Progress is a wonderful thing!!!
