Louisiana La. — Despite the matchup of winless teams in Saturday’s homecoming game at Cajun Field, both Louisiana La. and UL Monroe have players who could make the contest enjoyable.
Judging by last week’s near-miss 44-41 loss to Arkansas State, ULM’s Indians are capable of putting up points in a hurry at the midway point of the season.
The breakout star for coach Charlie Weatherbie is redshirt freshman running back Kevin Payne, a 208-pounder from Junction City, Ark. , who is 24th in the nation in rushing at 96.3 yards per game.
Payne rushed 25 times for 169 yards — the 14th-highest single-game total in ULM history — against ASU. He also scored on a 55-yard screen pass and totaled 227 rushing and receiving yards.
Another new face is freshman wide receiver RoShon Jacobs, who had nine catches for 85 yards and TD grabs of 20 and 9 yards from Steven Jyles. Just a sophomore himself, Jyles has hit 109-of-196 passes for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns in 2003.
ULM’s top aerial target remains All-Sun Belt wide receiver Mack Vincent (31-325-3). The senior from Marrero has 172 career receptions for 2,298 yards for the Indians.
ULM rolled to 538 yards of offense last week — 208 rushing, 330 passing.

Turbine, thanks for your continued comments and concern.Greg is coming along, he has started light straight ahead running with a brace. He also is working in weight room doing what he can. He goes to every practice. He wants this 1st win and is helping out, especially encouraging o-line, any way he can. I know he is a little down mentally because he does not travel with the team or be there with them on Friday night(home games)at the hotel. He will be with recruits this weekend. I enjoy your pictures and comments, along with all the other Cajuns comments. Leaving at noon for the game, won't get to see Greg much, but we love Lafayette area and Cajuns. Great get away for us. Hope we are celebrating 1st win, 34 to 24.
How blissfully ignorant to believe that such a thing is decided on any sports field.Quote from the ULm coach Charlie Weatherbie

Dear Fellow Members of RaginPagin,
I write to you as not only a UL student and a Ragin Cajun Fan but also as an employee of the Acadiana Recovery Center. I work with alcoholics and drug addicts that are inpatient in our facility for twenty-eight days. We do take our clients to different activites in the community. One idea that we had was to take our group of clients to a Ragin Cajun football game. Unfortunately, the university cannot donate the tickets and we were informed that tickets for groups such as ours are usually secured through local business donations. What I am asking is if anyone knows of a business that is looking to possibly donate tickets for approximately twenty-five individuals please feel free to contact me at aperron@centurytel.net. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Adrian Perron
I hate to say give us a chance but that is what we need we have had a rough start this year and a few key injuries but our line is still "young". just wait we know what we can do and yall will be amazed once everything comes together.
All week I have seen the signs the sayings all of them saying that the best is yet to come and it hit me the first day that i saw it that it could not be futher from the truth. See all the fans see is what happens in the games, they dont see the behind the scenes if you will all the things the team goes through during the week. Four 2-2 1/2 hour practices a week, school, and not to mention tons of meetings. every week for the past 6 weeks I have seen the distraught, anger, and dissappointment that has been on my teammates and coaches faces, and trust me they are tired of losing too. I wont lie ULM is a good team and although both teams are 0-6 ULL will win this "battle on the bayou" we need this winn more than some can imagine and I feel that once we get this win fans will see what lafayette is made of and what is to come and they will realize who the real university of louisiana is, UL !
Practice went ok for the cajuns again this week we just need to figure a way to carry it over to 4 quarters of football!
LOUISIANA La. — Someone’s got to win.
Louisiana is 0-6 on the season and 0-2 in Sun Belt Conference play.
UL Monroe also is 0-6 on the season and 0-2 in the Sun Belt.
When the Ragin’ Cajuns host the Indians at 4 p.m. today for homecoming at Cajun Field, someone has to emerge victorious.
There are far more glamorous matchups in the nation today, but none that means as much to the two combatants.
“We’re looking forward to the weekend,” said first-year ULM coach Charlie Weatherbie, whose team nearly broke into the win column with last week’s 44-41 loss to Arkansas State.
“I know Lafayette is in the same situation we are. We both have perfect records like we are. It’s the Battle of the Bayou in their backyard, and I know both teams will be ready to play.”

Why can't the university give tickets away?
"Easing up a bit " I say never ease up!
Cajuns fall to 0-7 vs. ULM. Our defense really sucks right now. How many years in a row have they sucked now? At least the offense came up big tonight, just not big enough. What is that now, 4 games in a row giving up 40+ points. All of the rationalizing about our tough early season schedule just went out the window. I am proud of the heart our team showed, but they have to find a way to win! Losing sucks, especially at home to a team that has already lost to 2 D1-AA teams this season. Our special teams had a very mixed night, blocking a punt, but continually giving up long returns. I am a very unhappy less-than-Ragin' Cajun tonight. If our defense is that beat up & short of talent, I don't know who we can beat the rest of the season.
I am too derpessed to even talk about the game
