The Abbeville Police Department is asking for the FBI's assistance in investigating the murder of an elderly woman. Four months ago, 71-year-old Rita Jordan was found stabbed to death inside her Abbeville home. She had been babysitting her one-year-old great grandchild. Police believe she tried to fight off her attacker. Nothing was taken from the home. No arrests have been made.
Lt. David Hardy is hoping the FBI can bring fresh ideas to the investigation. He says the Rita Jordan case has not gone cold, but so far, all leads in the case have reached a dead end.
"It's frustrating in that the public is still alerted and they want to know what happened, as do we," said Lt. Hardy.
Abbeville Police are gathering details in the case and forwarding it to the FBI. The Federal Bureau will then review the details and decide whether they should assist. Hardy says the FBI won't take over the case, they'll simply lend a hand.
