Changes are coming to how the Lafayette Parish School System decides who should be laid off and when.
The board is expected to vote tonight on a new policy for reduction enforcement that follows the state's new laws.
According to the law, when it comes time to decide who to layoff, that responsibility rests solely with the superintendent.
"We would always make those decisions based on what is going to hurt the children the least," says Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper.
"A persons life, their livelihood their job what they chose to do long before we came into contact them shouldn't lie solely with one particular person."
