UL baseball coach Tony Robichaux said that this was a good year for high school players in the Acadiana area, and that was reflected on the first day of the early period of national letter signings.
It also is apparently a good year for pitching locally.
The Cajuns squad inked six players on Wednesday's first day of the signing period, four of them Acadiana prospects and three of them highly-regarded pitchers.
UL got signed letters from right handers Mike Cook of Lafayette High and Dayton Marze of Teurlings Catholic and southpaw Patrick Holloway of Opelousas Catholic. The Cajuns also signed standout Acadiana High middle infielder Greg Fontenot.
"We think having these guys in our class gives us a very good organizational blend," Robichaux said. "We filled some immediate needs for next year, and at the same time we've got some good young kids that will be with us for three or four years."
