Thread: 'Hudspeth effect' leads to increase in brand awareness

  1. Default 'Hudspeth effect' leads to increase in brand awareness

Sociologists call it the “Flutie Effect,” referring to the phenomenon that occurs when having a successful college sports team translates into increased exposure and prominence of a university. It’s named after former Boston College quarterback Doug Flutie who raised the awareness of what was once a largely unknown school, after leading an upset in a 1984 game against the University of Miami.

Zach you could at least get the brand right in a article about brand awareness. It's LOUISIANA'S RAGIN' CAJUNS. The football team has never called itself UL Lafayette.

Who is this guy? Clearly he must work for ULM. lol

His bio said something about Bunkie High. I know lots of people from Bunkie and Cotton Port and all have a heavy Cajun accent, so I would think he is a MoanRow transplant to Bunkie.

Nah bud, I'm from Avoyelles. Never even been to Monroe (though I plan on making the trip for the ULM game later this season).

It's the paper's policy to publish the school name as "UL Lafayette". I write "UL" or "Louisiana", but it'll usually get changed before printing.

    Thanks for reading the article

    Nice writing Zackary

The Vermilion is supposed to be independent from the school.

Dr. Authement challenged this notion once, and lost.

Keep fighting Zack. One of those times it should slip by the editor...

Hold up. Our logo is "Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns". The school's official athletic department webpage uses "Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns", yet the Vermilion policy is to always change "Louisiana" to "UL Lafayette"? Even when discussing athletics?

Sounds like a pure crap policy.

Good article, though. Sounds like whomever runs the paper needs to get a clue.

They used to do that to me as well. I flipped them a bunch of grief about it, but it didn't change. Sometimes Verm policies are "special".

Who specifically is the person pushing this policy?

Give us a name! We want a name!

When Nick Fontenot was the editor, UL athletics were always referred to as UL or Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns.
