It's uncomfortable sitting on that bubble, trying to keep from slipping off and hoping that it doesn't burst. At least UL's women's basketball team has a safety net. The Ragin' Cajuns, 25-8 and the runner-up in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament after winning the league's Western Division, will be very interested observers Monday night when ESPN airs the NCAA women's basketball selection show. "We really haven't heard a lot," said Cajun coach J. Kelley Hall. "We're hearing that DePaul, TCU, Western Kentucky and us are the last four sitting on the fence, but we really don't know." The Cajuns fell 77-67 to 16th-ranked Middle Tennessee in Tuesday's Sun Belt title game, the Blue Raiders earning the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. UL is hoping for an at-large berth, one of the 31 available in the NCAA bracket. Earning an at-large slot may be a dicey proposition, even though UL finished second in the nation's ninth-highest RPI conference. I haven't followed the Ladies much. OK? But if your conference was so good that your seventh or eighth place team is better than the second place team in the ninth rated conference? Your conference should rank higher than fifth.

OK, I have a question. In that story Dan McDonald says that the Lady Cajuns played 23 of their 31 games away from the familiar EK Long Gym. I see on their schedule that they played 11 home games aside from the tournament. Is he implying that they are at a disadvantage when they play at the Cajundome??? (I am assuming that his math is right and the others were played there), or is he just wrong about this?????

Agree. Rather bizarre. In answer to the thread question... the 2nd in the 9th deserves it IMHO.

they are at a disadvantage when they play at the cajun dome, its not where they practice everyday so its not like having home court.

According to the NCAA Guidelines: A home court is a court that a team plays at least 5 regular season games on. So according to NCAA, We played 23 of 33 games away from our home court (E.K.Long) which is supposed to be weighted higher for road games (neutral) or away from home. That was all he was saying.

I heard Stevie P saying this morning on the radio show after announcing the time of the women's selection show, that he predicted us having a home game against SFA in the Cajundome. My issue in this thread is not what we deserve or should get, etc.etc.....

My issue is with using the Cajundome as our homecourt. As we all saw with the conference final (all factors considered) the crowd, though better than what the Lady Cajuns saw during the regular season, was not nearly big enough to make the Cajundome into a home court advantage. I daresay that had we played the final at EK Long gym, the outcome would have been different.

And unless SFA (or whoever we'd play in the first round of the NIT at home if the NCAA didn't take us) has a ridiculously large amount of travelling fan base, then why not play home NIT games at EK Long? It's noisier, looks extremely packed once you reach 500, and would be (IMO) the best atmosphere for the Lady Cajuns to play in. I even think that (as long as we have a packed house), that it would look and sound better on TV too.

So to make a long rant short, why on earth would we play a home NIT game at the Cajundome? Maybe there are some rules and factors I'm unaware of.

Play it in the Cajun Dome, hope one day that the ladies will be drawing a couple of thousand a game or a lot more. The dome is a better venue for the fan in so many ways. I do not undervalue a more compact gym atmosphere, but no amosphere was changing the Middle game, we simply had to play a lot better than the better team. In the not to distant future perhaps the UL team will be the cream of the crop. Coaches H & H have done one H of a job.

i follow the girls and they played a very good team close without a bench for support.....now! if you had said with some bench support the game might have been different i could buy into that. fatigue played a big part in what happened that night along with turnovers but still in all i am very proud of them and an NIT in the dome would be great!
