Thread: The Book: Lady Cajuns 2006-07 basketball

I hope this is a learning lesson !!! A 16 pt half time lead, to 16 pt loss, come on, I chalk this up to coaching, two coaching losses to Arkansas State. I know there was foul trouble, but a Tech foul , when we were getting most of the calls our way, two Fresh guards that never played, when we should have been putting in fresh leggs to keep 3's from being buried in our face, waiting til 4min's left in the game to put Jones back in. We can do better, much much better. Oh, and if anyone is curious, I watched the game on live video from ASU.

Hope mistakes can be corrected in the SunBelt Tourney.

I also thought Jones should have come back in much earlier. However, their may be other reasons Coach Hall made that decision which we are not privy to.

Look, I'm dissapointed in the loss too, but J Kelly Hall could be the best coach on campus. If we werent having such a good year, this loss wouldent even phase us. We'll be back, and pressing for the NCAA tourney.

  4. UL Basketball UL Women Fall Apart

The last time UL and Arkansas State played a women's basketball game, the Cajuns fell apart down the stretch and the Lady Indians rallied for an overtime win.

On Wednesday night at ASU's Convocation Center, the Cajuns didn't wait until late in the game to go to pieces.

UL led by 21 points with less than three minutes left in the first half, and ended up losing to the host Lady Indians by a 16-point 77-61 margin. ASU outscored the Cajuns 60-23 over the final 23 minutes of the key Sun Belt Conference battle.

Ever the optimist when it comes to the Ragin Cajuns, I think this loss, while large in terms of the amount of points they lost by, could be even bigger, to relight the fire. Have the sort of season that these girls are having, and it could result in some large heads. this sort of butt-whipping, especially after the game was out of reach, only to be given back, could nail these girls feet to the ground and really focus them in on the coming games and the tournament.

I can't believe the girls lost. I listened to the game until halftime and was impressed with how well we were playing. Played a game of softball, Figured they WAXED that @$$, and never checked the internet. Sounds like it was a total collapse in the second half.

Same here I was highly disappointed. We were up by 21 and lost by 16, thats a 37 point swing, I guess when you shoot 19% in the second half it is hard not to lose a lead no matter how big it is...

Doyle, I was out there last night as well who do you play for because if yall need another guy I might be interested our team took it up the @$$ last night and I am tired of it....send me pm.

I am a Lady Ragin Cajun Basketball Fan, and I want to support the team and be positive, not a fan that just likes us we win, and points fingers when we lose. That being said, I still feel a few points need to be brought to attention, since our Coach reads this forum.

I think Coach Hall should take some ownership in this loss, he is the Co-Head Coach right ? This was his comment:

"We've never given up that many points (55) in a half," said Cajun coach J. Kelley Hall. "That's not acceptable. That's giving up."

To me, he's implying that our girls gave up and not him. Then there was this quote:

"We don't have the depth to play like that against a team like that in this environment," Hall said.

Don't have the Depth ??? Miller only had 8min, Boudreaux had 1min, Ratliff did have 17min, but we had two fresh Guards that can shoot 3's that Didn't Even Get into the Game!!! If your team is giving up on you, you quit coaching, and you don't use your bench, because you just don't have enough depth ??? If you don't try and use your bench, I guess you don't have any depth.

I can accept this disappointing loss, and his unusual approach of using players, but don't blame the girls or our depth without taking some responsibilty that Coaching could have done some things different, and tried everything possible before pointing the finger at our team. They have proved that they can win big games already.

  9. UL Basketball Tough task ahead for LAdy Cajuns

UL's women's basketball team has had a week to get over the shock.

Now, the Ragin' Cajuns have to regroup.

The Cajuns (19-7, 10-4), who held a 1 1/2-game lead in the Sun Belt Conference Western Division a week ago and now find themselves only one-half game ahead, host UL Monroe at 7 p.m. today at Long Gym to open an important four-game stretch to end the regular season.

Coach J. Kelley Hall's squad faces the necessity of winning four straight games to lock up the West title, and that looms as a tough task after UL's 77-61 dismantling at the hands of West leader Arkansas State last Wednesday.

"We're taking it one game at a time, but our kids realize that it's going to take us running the table," Hall said. "The risk is there because we do not own the tiebreaker with Arkansas State anymore, and I still believe it's going to be a four-team horse race ... Denver and Arkansas-Little Rock are going to have some say in it."
