Biggest win of the season. WKU has an RPI of 27, Cajuns have a 58 RPI. Talk about moving up.

Through the Magic of the Internet. and a registration fee , I've been able to watch the North Texas Game and the Western Kentucy Game Online Live Video from each School's web site. All I can say is WoW !!! It's hard to appreciate the come back we made in the North Texas Game without watching it, and the first half on the Western Kentucy Game, has to be the best we have played as a Team all year, hitting on all cylinders. Everybody stepped up that Game, a real Team Win. Big contributions from our Bench with Players in Foul Trouble. Just a Huge Conference Win. This helps a little for letting Arkansas State slip away from us at home. Keep the MOEmentum GOING TEAM !!! Can't wait to Cheer us on Wednesday !!!

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Louisiana’s women’s basketball team defeated Western Kentucky on the road for the first time in school history with a 77-64 victory on Sunday afternoon.

UL (14-5, 6-2) held the second highest scoring team in the Sun Belt to nine points below their season average.

WKU (10-5, 4-2), which leads the conference in field goal percentage at 48.2 percent, shot just 35.7 percent.

Yolanda Jones led the Cajuns with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Onna Charles finished with 15 points and seven boards, while Jeanenne Colbert added 14 points and a game-best six assists.

  8. UL Basketball UL makes history with road win over WKU

UL's women's basketball team made history Sunday, and that normally would have been enough. But the shockingly easy humbling of Western Kentucky's Lady Toppers made Sunday afternoon a landmark date for the program.

The Ragin' Cajuns stormed to as much as a 14-point lead before halftime, and Western never cut the margin to single digits in the second half as UL posted a head-turning 77-64 victory at Diddle Arena in Bowling Green, Ky.

The win was the Cajuns' first-ever win at Diddle Arena and only their second-ever in 31 games against the Sun Belt Conference rival Lady Toppers. More importantly in the short term, the win put UL (14-5, 6-2) within one game of first place in the Sun Belt's Western Division.

"Our kids were aware of all that," said Cajun coach J. Kelley Hall. "They knew that we hadn't won here, and they knew Western had a 27 RPI coming in. This is a win over a very good team."

Not sure how that RPI is calculated. Every other site, excluding rpirealtime, the website quoted, has the Lady Cajuns in the low 60s. The Cajuns have the second highest RPI in the Sun Belt, second only to MTSU, who is ranked 23rd in national polls. Not sure if this is enough for an at large bid, but the closer to 51/50 then the chances of the Cajuns going to the NCAAs increase. Expect the RPI to take a hit as the Cajuns begin playing poor RPI teams in the Sun Belt.

    RPIRatings.com -- 62nd
    CollegeRPI.com -- 61st

The men's RPI, according to Rpirealtime, is around 301st. Ken Pomeroy lists the Cajuns at 298; they bumped up after the loss to WKU, who is ranked 62nd. Sadly, there are four teams with two wins (Wofford, NC Asheville, Idaho and Nicholls) who are statistically superior to the Cajuns in the RPI. The Cajuns have just three division one wins, and have the second worst RPI out of teams in Louisiana. Only Southern is worse (305).

I listened to the game on the radio and I was very impressed. They dominated from start to finish with very little exception. Let's hope everybody notices and gets out there more to the lady cajun basketball games. Good job Coaches Hall and team!!!!!

    God Bless

  12. UL Basketball It's the DEFENSE

Eventually, one of UL’s women’s basketball opponents is going to give the Ragin’ Cajun defense a little credit. After 14 wins, it can’t be just a continual series of cold shooting nights.

Virtually every time the UL women have won this year, opposing coaches and players bemoan the fact that their team didn’t shoot well. It happened again Sunday when the Cajuns took a surprisingly easy 77-64 road win at established Sun Belt power Western Kentucky.

The host Toppers made only 35.7 percent of their shots in Sunday’s loss, and only went 3-of-21 outside the three-point arc.

That’s happened to a lot of teams, last Thursday’s 85-76 win over North Texas notwithstanding. UNT hit 45.9 percent in that game and scored 73 points, the most UL has allowed all year, but in 11 of UL’s 14 wins this year opponents have shot under 40 percent.

So far this year, UL opponents are shooting 34.3 percent from the field in 19 games.

  13. UL Basketball Lady Cajun Yolanda Jones named Sun Belt Player of the Week

It's amazing what good things can happen when your team wins four straight games.

UL senior Yolanda Jones was honored as the Sun Belt Conference's women's basketball Player of the Week Monday, after leading the Ragin' Cajuns to road wins at North Texas and Western Kentucky - the latter a first-ever UL win in Bowling Green.

Jones scored 20 of her game-high 30 points in the second half in Thursday's 85-76 comeback win at UNT to go with 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals.

On Sunday, she had 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds along with five assists in the Cajuns' surprisingly easy 77-64 win over the Lady Toppers. She had 11 of her points in the first half in helping UL take a double-digit lead.

Congratulations Yolanda! I read the news release on the Sunbelt Sports website and couldn't have been more proud if it were my own daughter. The Lady Cajuns work hard everyday and deserve all the credit they can get. The whole team is awesome. Keep up the great work.
