Escaped Inmate/Sex Offender Last Seen In Lafayette

The US Marshals Office is asking for the public's help in finding an escaped inmate and sex offender who was last seen in Lafayette.  Sherman Cornette (pictured) was due at a federal halfway house in Austin, TX on August 20th, but he never arrived.  The circumstances of Cornette's escape are unclear, but he was serving a 21-month prison sentence with the Bureau of Prisons in Oakdale.

Cornette was last seen at the  Valero Gas Station at 1912 NE Evangeline Thruway in Lafayette during the evening hours of Monday, August 20th.
