LCG/Broussard Dispute Continues

Broussard City-Attorney Allan Durand spoke before the Lafayette City-Parish Council Tuesday night, addressing the ongoing dispute between the City of Broussard and LCG.

"The Broussard city council and city government has no desire to sever any ties of any sort with the Lafayette Consolidated Government," said Durand.

When asked if Broussard had any intention of dropping a pair of lawsuits filed against LCG, Durand replied: "Broussard can't do that."

City-Parish President Joey Durel issued an ultimatum to Broussard back in May, threatening to cut ties with the city, should Mayor Charles Langlinais not drop lawsuits concerning land annexation and water services.

Durand says he's bound by duty to the citizens of Broussard to let the legal system handle the lawsuits.

"That's going to be resolved by the courts and we're either right or wrong and that's going to take care of that," said Durand.

Animal control and water services are slated to be cut from Broussard by LCG, should the lawsuits remain.
