Yet the AN is saying it will launch April 9th (next Monday). Which one will be?

And who will complain first if it is not launched when the countdown hits 0:00 or not launched on April 9th?

Just pulled it up and it showed 7 days from today.

I can see it now, its gonna try to launch on Monday, but with all the hype, and with all the people complaining about not having a site, and with this little countdown, everyone is gonna be refreshing so much so they can be one of the first to see it, that something's gonna crash. They ought to do it Iraqi election/execution style and turn that puppy on sunday night at around midnight, even though they still tell us Monday, so the flood of attention isn't as sudden.

If "Ragin Cajuns" is googled, the first site that comes up is ragincajuns.com, but it contains the phrase U/S/L Ragin Cajuns. So much for the name change.

Second, as of today, Tuesday, the countdown is still stuck at 6 days, which is the same amount when the countdown was originally posted Sunday. Is this a tease or is it for real?

Third, where was this website when the Ragin Cajun women made the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history? Where was this website when the football team scored a huge win against the eventual CUSA champion Houston? Where was this website when football notched its second straight winning season in late November? Where was this website during recruiting season? Yes, finally having a website (AN was rarely updated regularly and was difficult to navigate) is a good thing, but couldn't the timing have been better? The Cajuns seemed to have missed a great opportunity to showcase the University in March when the Lady Cajuns were in the NCAA tournament.

The website will be a success only if it has the following things:

    1. Regular, timely, pertinent updates (Taking three days to post Orien Greene being drafted by the Celtics is unacceptable)
    2. Tons of sponsorship opportunities
    3. The chance to buy clothing online (Currently, you must mail the bookstore a check --- is this 1976?)
    4. The chance to buy tickets online (Currently, you must go to the Cajundome, which closes at 430, and pay only in cash)
    5. A recruiting portal for parents, coaches and high school and transfer students to put in their athletic numbers. This will ease the recruiting process and streamline the collection of information.
    6. A Spanish version of every single page to interest the growing Latino population in Louisiana and take advantage of Louisiana's relative proximity to most of Latin America.
    7. Video highlights of every athletic event.

When the new website is launched, we'll check back and see how many of these the Cajuns met.

Lastly, the following story was overheard and very relavent to the development of a Ragin Cajuns website. A high school teacher -- a huge Ragin Cajuns supporter -- had a great women's basketball player in his class and she was being recruited by big schools but would not likely qualify academically. As such, improving, close schools, like Louisiana/Lafayette, were becoming an option. The student asked if they (the Ragin Cajuns) had a website so her mother could watch her games, check her stats, etc. The teacher answered her honestly, "No, not really. They had one, but it died out, and they never really got a new one."

If the recollection is correct, the student is now considering lowly UTA or UNT, programs that haven't exactly gone crazy in women's basketball, in part because they both have websites where her mother can access her daughter's information. Access, especially for parents, is huge in the decision making process.

I checked out some other XOS sites. They are pretty slick. You are correct. They do require timely maintenance.

They mentioned at the baseball game last night about the site about to go online. They did say that all Cajun games would be available streaming video on the web. I don't know how they'll manage it, but that's what I understood TD to say.

I have seen the website. Except for the Spanish language thing, it has everything demanded (?) above.

Geez, I hope they can end up doing something to get the stream through the website or through the school, eventually. Getting to listen to the games online is great, having to do it on 1420 is not great with the incredible delay and with all the bob costas stuff. hopefully it will improve soon.

Before, only the games were streamed...now all the programming is streamed. would having a link from the ragincajuns.com to ONLY the game coverage eliminate the problem of the stuff i mentioned above. I guess what i am asking is that is there a way to have a link, that only works when somebody flips a switch at the station?
