I'm not saying we won't be fine. I just don't think we will be as good as last year.

A team that runs the spread will generally always struggle in the redzone because of the way the offense is designed. Even with practice in goal line situations players are just not comfortable with that type of smash mouth football. I am much more confident when we have the basll around the 12-15yrd line to score a TD than I am when we are inside the 5. That allows our best playmakers to operate in a little more space and the defense has very little reaction time to staop whatever we throw at them. Goal line defense is all about penetration and gap control. If you get any push from the NT and have the DT's maintain gap control it is very hard to score.
Oh .. Dear Coach Hud - do not to line up for an extra point with the line spread out to the left of the center. That looks so high school. If we will kick the extra point, line up in that formation. If we are going to go for 2, line up in a traditional offense formation.
Sorry for the vent, it my pet peeve.
Green struggled for much of last season. He had a couple of big games but was largely missing outside of FIU, ULM and the bowl game. Our offense was pretty darned good without his production. Yes, I know that he was still a threat and defenses had to mark him but I don't see a lot of dropoff if any in the passing game. We have a lot of talent and our TE's are serviceable and will make defenses have to play them. We do need a better running game however. I think we will be a bit better running the ball although I don't see it being a huge bump from last year's numbers.
I noticed the goal line situation and was disappointed the defense bailed them out.
I thought Broadway didn't look comfortable either. Our receivers however seemed to find some nice creases. I coulda smacked mrs 8 for dragging the kids to two birthday parties and having them pooped out therefore having to leave early. I just missed the big play Broadway had.. not sure who caught it or what...
I was pleased to see our kickoffs going into the endzone and our coverage looked spectacular.
I'm still worried about our running game. UGH!
