Default ROUX: OL Kyle Plouhar commits to UL

A friend of mine tells me that we got a committment fomr a 6'6 OT from Mandeville but he didn't remember the name so ya'll know me I had to find out more. Well the only guy that matches that description is 6'6 290lbs Kyle Plouhar. He is rated by rivals as the 4th best O-Lineman in the state. Does anyone have any info as to if this committment is real...he said he seen it in the Advocate but I searched and couldn't find anything.

    ULL picks up Fontainebleau lineman

There wasn’t anything redeeming about Hurricane Katrina in the mind of Kyle Plouhar until he was forced to evacuate more than 2,600 miles from his home in Mandeville to Salem, Oregon.

“Louisiana is where I’ve grown up and I left for the hurricane,” Plouhar said. “I lived here before and thought I couldn’t wait to get out of town. But when I actually left for the hurricane I felt I couldn’t wait to get back.”

Plouhar, a standout offensive lineman who returned for his senior season at Fontainebleau High, ensured he would do just that beyond high school — becoming the first commitment for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (4-2), the co- leaders in the Sun Belt Conference, already have a pair of Plouhar’s former high school teammates on their roster — tight end Matt Ulm and defensive tackle Chris Johnson.

The 6-foot-6 284-pound Plouhar was a starter at offensive tackle on Fontainebleau’s Class 5A state semifinalist team that eventually lost to Evangel Christian.

Plouhar actually began his junior season with the Bulldogs where he fractured his collarbone in a jamboree against John Curtis.

The next day Hurricane Katrina ravaged New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region, forcing Plouhar and his family to flee to the West Coast where he enrolled and started at offensive tackle for Sprague High.

“I had an average season,” Plouhar said. “I was affected by my collarbone and then having to learn a whole new system was tough.”

Fontainebleau was off to a quick start, winning its first seven games, until last week’s 28-18 loss to District 4-5A rival Slidell.

Plouhar, who attended summer camps at Oregon State, Michigan, Penn State and LSU, chose UL-Lafayette over Ball State, Army, Oregon State and Connecticut.

“I want to major in finance,” said Plouhar, who is academically qualified, “and they’re a great finance school.”

    FANtastic.

Scout.com had Kyle naming his top-5 programs as Michigan State, Michigan, LSU Southern Miss and Oregon.

If UL had a scout.com website we could update it right now.

He is a very good pickup and I'm glad to see a pipeline starting with Fontainebleau because they have solid teams year in and year out. Hopefully the first of many great committments

I wanted to add on Rivals Kyle is rated as a 2 star player but on rivals rankign system their scale is on a pt system. Kyle is rated a 5.4 on the point system and a 5.5 is a 3 star so he is very close in their eyes to being a 3 star for all of you who like to think about the star ratings

My good man, he committed to UL. Trust me, in the eyes of the ranking systems.. if he signs with a mid major, his stock will drop.

I think he kicks sss, and am glad to have him aboard!

Good news indeed! I saw him play Friday night in their first loss (to Slidell). Unfortunately, I wasn't aware he was a potential UL guy so I didn't watch for him specifically. As my oldest son is now a senior at UL and my youngest son is a junior at Fontainebleau HS, I am very happy to see this pipeline developing. I did notice a student in the stands wearing a UL Ragin' Cajuns shirt, too.

    Yes!!

I know Kyle and his Mom and Dad. He really loved UL !! He will be a great addition to the O Line>

As for the "kid" in the crowd with the "Ragin Cajun" tee shirt, he was your own #86 Tight End Matt Ulm from Fontainebleau.

    Go Cajuns!!

What really makes me happy is that we clogged S Miss's pipeline to the North Shore. If we can start getting the quality young men from that area we will reallllyyy begin kicking _____. Agreed?

I think the "kid'" I saw at the game was waaaay too young to be in college. He looked to be about 15 years old and was hanging around the HS underclassmen in the student section of the stands. I also saw a huge young man (may have been Plouhar?) in the Castine Center the same night the Cajuns played on TV. (That's why I missed most of the first half!) We were there for my younger son to attend college night. BTW, that was a very well attended event with colleges from all around the US represented (including Harvard, Georgetown, Ohio State, Tennessee, etc.). The UL table was swamped with kids/parents! I was glad to see that. I don't think there were a lot more crowded around the LSU table
