I think the solution is simple BWK, people won't give you grief for your approach to supporting certain sports teams if you don't give them any grief for attending any and all sporting events regardless of outcome.
Are the diehards upset about the state of the program? Sure they are. But don't try and look down on people just because they decide to buy season tickets and attend games. Not everyone thinks like you, and if you guys can agree to disagree on that point then I think a lot of the drama on this thread could be avoided.
Good afternoon. After some thought and a lot of reading I decided to reply to this thread. I preface that it is a challenging time to be involved with the Men's Basketball and Athletic Department.
The reason you have not heard from Kentwan or Kadeem's families is because we are involved currently with the Athletic Department and Coach Marlin regarding the treatment both young men are receiving. We have chosen not to deal with it here but since we have been brought in I will comment this one time.
We do however understand the comments and have been following them one must understand that all of the players families know each other and have all spoken about common issues on how the players were treated over the last year. Raymone's people need to be commended as he was treated unfairly by the University, Athletic Department and basketball staff. JJ's family have been on here several times based on comments I have read. Odayne currently has issues with the school he is working on. Darnell went D2 to get away from the treatment he was receiving from the coaching staff.
I have made it a point to keep up with what is currently happening with the former players as it appears they are receiving some of the same treatment as we are. It is not correct how the players have been handled by the University of Louisiana. I expected more from them based on the images they portrayed and the things we were told when first visiting the campus.
I actually agree with most of this and find this to be one of the most rational posts I've seen. However, I will share in your lack of enthusiasm for this upcoming season. I am probably looking forward more to the women's season than the mens and I don't know how to feel about that. But, my love for the program does not have to be earned. I will and always have loved this program. My willingness to sit through the carnage that we've seen with this program over the last year so is a different story. I feel that the true loyal fans as many of us here, don't have to promised anything or don't have to support only a winner as most have shared the triumphs and struggles of this program over the years. I think for many of us, our love for the program is NOT conditional. I think this is where your thoughts differ from many here but I cannot deny that there is little enthusiasm for this upcoming season, at least on my end.
IMO, this years team wasn't all that bad. Our team makes about 10 more free throws and everyone is singing a different tune.
I would like to say thanks for the comment but family should really stay off the message boards because feelings get hurt easy. I'm not getting in the middle of whether the kids were treated fairly because I don't know. What I do know is that Robert Lee had no control over his teams and it was very evident. It may be possible that these kids now have discipline and they don't like it? Again, I'm not there on a daily basis to make an educated opinion.
What I can say is if I was coaching just about every kid would have been let go based on their free throw shooting. If you cant make 80% of your free throws you should be banned from the sport. After all they are FREE.
