Renovations to Northside High School became an issue one someone working with the contractors left a faucet open. The water was shut off to the building when the faucet was left on. When it was turned back on, the water made its way onto the gym floor.
"We've had to come in and do some repairs to this floor that we didn't anticipate doing, but it's not going to cost the school district anything," Lafayette School Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper said.
In other words, taxpayers won't have to fork over extra money to pay for the new floor, ironically, there were already plans in place to make these renovations.
"In our "Northside Turnaround" project there was a huge facilities piece worth about two million dollars. That included coming in and doing some major painting, replacing some windows in a portion of the school, and resurfacing the gym floors. So this gym floor was already going to be resurfaced," Dr. Cooper said.
Even though this accident was unexpected, Dr. Cooper says the entire thing will work out in favor for Northside High.
"We're going to have a brand new floor almost. It's going to be completely refinished, re-striped, re-varnished, everything. It's going to be better than it was before, and better than we had even planned for it to be. It was kind of a bad thing that the water flooded it, but in a way it's a good thing because we're going to get a better quality floor," Dr. Cooper said.
