SULPHUR - As it turns out, UL signee Ashley Brignac is human after all.
The star pitcher for John Curtis, Brignac's amazing streak in the postseason ended during a 10-0 win over Mamou Friday in a Class 2A state softball quarterfinal when Kaitlin Duplechin hit a flare in the fifth inning to left field for a base hit.
In her two previous playoff games, Brignac fired a pair of perfect games, striking out 35 of 36 batters. Against Mamou, Brignac allowed just the one hit and struck out 15 batters in the five-inning game.
Duplechin said afterwards that she almost didn't run to first base, because she couldn't believe she got a hit.
"It doesn't really matter to me,'' said Brignac, who had struck out 369 of 467 batters this season entering Friday's game. "A win is a win.''

In the last 2 years I believe she has given up 2 runs both unearned lol I think they got it even if they only score 1 run a game lolOriginally Posted by lcitsh
So this basically means she has struck out 50 of the last 52 batters she has faced? I really don't see how that hit is significant, lol.Originally Posted by NewsCopy
That is just stupid rediculous.
5 games , 0 runs scored. Yeah, she outclassed Class 2A.Originally Posted by Clutch0364
No in the last 2 years she has not lost a game and she has given up 0 earned runs not just in the playoffs but during the season. It doesn't matter what level she plays at that is unbelievable. Don't undermind what she has done because its against 2A...lets think about basketball Elijah Milsap was the freshman of the year and he played 1aOriginally Posted by lcitsh
SULPHUR - If there were ever any doubts about UL signee Ashley Brignac's ability, they should be long gone by now.
The star pitcher for John Curtis capped off a magnificent career with 18 more strikeouts and another no-hitter Saturday as the Patriots captured the Class 2A state title with a 1-0 win over Menard.
Brignac's strikeout total for the entire playoff run was a staggering 88 batters. That's 88 strikeouts out of 95 batters she faced.
All told, she gave up one hit in five playoff games, that one coming by Mamou's Kaitlin Duplechin in the Patriots' 10-0 quarterfinal win over the Lady Demons.

I was at the State Championships this year. I watched two of the John Curtis games, the Mamou game and the Final one. I sat near the third base coach. I could see the eyes of the batters as they turned to look at the coach after they were introduced to Ashley's first pitch to them. It was just so animated. Their eyes were wide and their mouths were open and a look of disbelief was on their faces. The Menard coach, especially, worked his hardest not to smile. It was one of those little "stories" that don't make the BIG news.
Ashley Brignac is truly amazing. Her long legs bring her almost out of the circle when she ends her delivery. She caught two pop ups from the pitchers mound. For one of those catches, she dove about 5 feet for the ball and came up with it. I was so surprised, it looked hopeless. WOW! She is something.
This summer, Ashley will represent the USA on the Jr. World Team in several world countries. What grand experience she will bring with her when she sets foot at Ragin Cajun Park. Get your Season Tickets! (Oh, her dad wore his Ragin Cajun hat with a pepper on the back. )
Couple of our boys made the games on Friday. They wore their Louisiana attire. They said it was hilarious when they were approached by players from other teams, parents, fans, when asked if they were UL coaches here to watch Brignac------they would reply that she and Bourgeois had already signed with UL~~~!!!Originally Posted by LuLu
