The uniform is about EVERYBODY. Players, alumni, and fans. Players AND alumni represent the university. I believe there are more people than you think that would like to be represented by a classier and more traditional look as THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA.

    <>

We were building quite a tradition of winning football ever since 1-A was established in 1982.

We had a great tradition of a cannon fire at the games.

We had worn the same unis for about 25 years.

    People KNEW who we were.

That all changed around the mid to late 90's.

    First, the cannon was gone.

Then, the football program was gone.

    Then, our uniforms were gone.

It's hard to develop tradition if you keep demolishing them one by one.

It looks like winning football is back to LOUISIANA. Let's bring back the correct uniforms for our university as well. After that, maybe we can work on the cannon.

P.S. Players could care less what the uniform looks like. They want to win. They will go to whatever school gives them the best chance of winning usually.

If a player is picking UL because of the "flashy", "trendy" uniforms, perhaps that player would be better suited for the Ragin' Jazz team.
I guess I am younger but I hate the old uniforms and love the new "trendy" uniforms. If we would change back the old ones I would not like it at all.

I ask you this... other than arguing on this site, what method can we use to enforce some consistency and tradition? All I ever read is ideas on new uniforms, helmets, and everything else. I am getting sick of the constant change. Some flaky ideas keep coming up and I am not so sure we aren't going to see them on the field.
That's the problem. It really doesn't matter what you or I think. The people have no say in the matters of OUR university. It only matters what 1 person in Martin Hall thinks.

It's the 21st century, adapt man; adapt.

Those schools you listed earlier have a tradition built through those uniforms, that's why they keep them the same.

Us on the other hand, we have no tradition. So we updated our unis, big deal. There hasn't been much changed since the 99 season except a few different strip patterns on the legs, and some trim on the jersey. Also, the incorporation of black into our uniforms wasn't a bad change at all. Plus, now we have alternate looks rather than the same old boring red w/ white or white on white like we had a few years back.

Like I said, times change man, so just accept it. Things could always be worse for people like you if we'd adopt a Miami or Oregon style of uniform in which about 30 different combinations are possible. But I on the other hand think Oregon has some of the best uni options ever. It's flashy and stylish and modern. We're not doing that, so always remember, things could get "worse".

    I disagree.

We HAD tradition. We killed it.

BYU "updated" their unis a few years ago. They are back to a traditional look.

SMU "updated" their unis a few years ago. They are back to a traditional look.

Mark my words. Our current unis will change. I just hope they change back to a traditional look.

What you call boring, I call Classy.

The least we could do is get rid of those fruity numbers.

I mean, we are THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA.

Our current uniforms are a joke.

""It's flashy and stylish and modern.""

That's a statement that should be used for the new Ragin' Jazz outfits, not for the football uniforms.

This is very surprising to me because I have never spoken to anyone who doesn't like our uniforms. I love the uniforms we have right now and I guess this is coming form the younger generation like I said in a previous post but I wouldn't want our uni's to change.

Oh, and what tradition was this? Having Jake Delhomme play for our university and beating A&M? That's no tradition, our tradition is building right now.

But I guess you're right, let's ditch everything unique about our uniforms(which are ranked as some of the best by the way) such as our number designs or modern outlines/piping and wear what everyone else wears on gameday. When we have the following and tradition of an Alabama or an Ohio St, then we can be as "classy" as we want. I guess you'll be turning in your grave when our tradition is entrenched w/ uniforms containing black outlines, triangular stripes, and "fruity" numbers.

I recall not too many weeks ago that an AP article listed our unis as one of his top 5 favorites in all of college football. I like the jerseys that the cajuns wear and like the article said, "having Ragin' Cajuns on the side of your helmet says it all."

    How old are you?

I'm just trying to get a read on why you so wrongly believe we have never had tradition.

I have posted some of our history. You ignore it.

I have posted other schools that have seen the folly of "flashy" new unis and have returned to their traditional unis. You ignore it.

Our "fruity" numbers have been altered several times and BOP still has trouble reading them from the booth.

It's been my experience that uniform alterations are done to cast your attention away from the actual play on the field.

Now that we're winning, I see no reason to return to uniforms that are worthy of THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA.

Okay, fine, let's play the Q&A game.

    22

I haven't ignored it b/c there is no true history in comparison to some of the other schools you have previously mentioned in this whole uniform discussion.

I also didn't ignore the TWO examples you have given. I'm sure you'll notice that both BYU and SMU went back to they're more traditional looks once their programs started to decline. This was sort of an attempt to have a "renaissance",if you will, of their storied football traditions. I would also expect that you'd realize that even the almighty Ohio St., one of the most "classy" teams left in the NCAA even made changes to their storied uniforms this season. But I'm sure you missed that one.

Well, our "fruity" are very distinct and unique. They give us a sense of originality and as for BoP, that's why the booth also has binoculars and spotters.

We changed our uni's to begin the mark of a new era. To put and end to the disgrace that was our football program during the later years of the 90's. So maybe our uni change was to detract from our performace back then(I'm actually agreeing you may have a valid point) but what also needs to be recognized is the resurgence and upside of the program since this change. Our new uni's reflect our attitude. We've got new kinds of players, a new offense, and a whole new atmosphere and I think our uniforms reflect this perfectly.

PS, how could our old uniforms be worthy of the U. of Louisiana when we were USL back then? Technically, we aren't even U. of Louisiana, but when that day does come, these uniforms will represent the changing university perfectly. I mean, all the colors of the official Ragin Cajuns logo are represented in our uniforms and that's the way it should be.

Have a good day; it's been a pleasure.

I would like to see the endzones painted red with white dimonds in the middle. This is what the endzones looked like in 96 and maybe 97. They could even bring back the red & white checkered ones too.

I definitely agree that our endzones need more color. I mean, would it be that hard to paint the entire endzone red and scroll Louisiana in white all across? I think not.

Also, what's up w/ the yellow endzone line? Or did that get corrected for the EMU game? (I was out of town.)

Yes. Exactamundo. I'm not sure how much it costs for enough red paint to color in the endzones but I having been saying that ever since I got to UL. I'm sure someone would be more than happy to donate it.
