Some would say flashy. I say cheesy, minor-league, messy, ugly, "trendy", and definitely not worthy of THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA.
This is worthy, classy, and traditional enough to be our uniforms:

Just put UL or the Tri-Fleur on the helmet.
Put CAJUNS or LOUISIANA on the front of the jerseys.
HOTBOUDIN, I thought we did have "Louisiana" on the front of the uniforms. Not that I don't agree... I liked that old uniform... but it's an OLD uniform. You are going retro here. I don't think this year's uniforms are cheesy. I like traditional looks, but I'm 44.
I am totally against going with so much overstyle (and constant change). However, we do need that 17 and 18 year old getting recruited to like what he sees in his uniform... small issue perhaps... but that has a lot to do with it. I also want our current students to have more say-so (just a little bit) than some of us older alum.
With all change, older folks have to be the voice of reason, without being unprogressive. No offense meant in this response... take care.
No offense, but what do you think the people at these schools think about current trends, being progressive, "old" unis, etc., etc....Originally Posted by Just1More

Simple, Classy, Traditional
The question is do we want to be like them are like every other high school in louisiana?
Think I'm wrong? Watch the football highlights next Friday night.
I understand your point. But, we are not built yet like many of these schools. They haven't changed their name over and over either. They have a set tradition that lends itself to very organized, methodical change. We have almost no set tradition. We have to recruit with Flash or anything else that gets someone's attention... aggravating, disgusting, but true.
Trust me, we are not losing a recruit to Ohio State because he didn't like our uniform. I will argue that some players we recruit would choose our new uniform over the Jake Delhomme era. The uniform is not about us, it is about them... they have to wear it.
I hear what you are saying, and I am not in total disagreement. But, we are not an established program. The programs you mention have to cater to a long list of contributors. Do you think any of them would have changed their name to "Ragin Cajuns" instead of "Bulldogs"?
I don't want to go cheesy... and don't really think we have. But, we have to take risks and be "progressive", and can afford to, for the sake of selling to a younger generation.

Trust me. No tradition will be built on being trendy.

The uniform is about EVERYBODY. Players, alumni, and fans. Players AND alumni represent the university. I believe there are more people than you think that would like to be represented by a classier and more traditional look as THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA.

We were building quite a tradition of winning football ever since 1-A was established in 1982.
We had a great tradition of a cannon fire at the games.
We had worn the same unis for about 25 years.
People KNEW who we were.
That all changed around the mid to late 90's.
First, the cannon was gone.
Then, the football program was gone.
Then, our uniforms were gone.
It's hard to develop tradition if you keep demolishing them one by one.
It looks like winning football is back to LOUISIANA. Let's bring back the correct uniforms for our university as well. After that, maybe we can work on the cannon.
P.S. Players could care less what the uniform looks like. They want to win. They will go to whatever school gives them the best chance of winning usually.
If a player is picking UL because of the "flashy", "trendy" uniforms, perhaps that player would be better suited for the Ragin' Jazz team.
All valid points... and I am not saying a player is picking UL for the uniform alone, but I think you are incorrect in saying players don't care what the uniform looks like. You are correct that winning is the most important matter that affects everything.
I ask you this... other than arguing on this site, what method can we use to enforce some consistency and tradition? All I ever read is ideas on new uniforms, helmets, and everything else. I am getting sick of the constant change. Some flaky ideas keep coming up and I am not so sure we aren't going to see them on the field.
I guess I am younger but I hate the old uniforms and love the new "trendy" uniforms. If we would change back the old ones I would not like it at all.Originally Posted by HOTBOUDIN
That's the problem. It really doesn't matter what you or I think. The people have no say in the matters of OUR university. It only matters what 1 person in Martin Hall thinks.Originally Posted by Just1More

Those schools you listed earlier have a tradition built through those uniforms, that's why they keep them the same.
Us on the other hand, we have no tradition. So we updated our unis, big deal. There hasn't been much changed since the 99 season except a few different strip patterns on the legs, and some trim on the jersey. Also, the incorporation of black into our uniforms wasn't a bad change at all. Plus, now we have alternate looks rather than the same old boring red w/ white or white on white like we had a few years back.
Like I said, times change man, so just accept it. Things could always be worse for people like you if we'd adopt a Miami or Oregon style of uniform in which about 30 different combinations are possible. But I on the other hand think Oregon has some of the best uni options ever. It's flashy and stylish and modern. We're not doing that, so always remember, things could get "worse".
I disagree.Originally Posted by CutOff_Cajun

Mark my words. Our current unis will change. I just hope they change back to a traditional look.
What you call boring, I call Classy.
The least we could do is get rid of those fruity numbers.
I mean, we are THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA.
Our current uniforms are a joke.
""It's flashy and stylish and modern.""
That's a statement that should be used for the new Ragin' Jazz outfits, not for the football uniforms.
This is very surprising to me because I have never spoken to anyone who doesn't like our uniforms. I love the uniforms we have right now and I guess this is coming form the younger generation like I said in a previous post but I wouldn't want our uni's to change.Originally Posted by HOTBOUDIN
Oh, and what tradition was this? Having Jake Delhomme play for our university and beating A&M? That's no tradition, our tradition is building right now.Originally Posted by HOTBOUDIN
But I guess you're right, let's ditch everything unique about our uniforms(which are ranked as some of the best by the way) such as our number designs or modern outlines/piping and wear what everyone else wears on gameday. When we have the following and tradition of an Alabama or an Ohio St, then we can be as "classy" as we want. I guess you'll be turning in your grave when our tradition is entrenched w/ uniforms containing black outlines, triangular stripes, and "fruity" numbers.
