Breaux Bridge Student to Take Trip of a Life-Time
A Breaux Bridge student is gearing up for the trip of a lifetime.
Thirteen year old Dorian Gregory was selected for the first-ever FEMA Youth Preparedness Council in Washington D.C.
"I was like so very excited and amazed to be chosen out of 125 people, it's a great honor."
Dorian Gregory had no idea he was chosen for the FEMA Youth Preparedness Council. His dad nominated him and was one of thirteen students chosen from across the country. His parents were under strict orders to keep it a secret for nearly two months."His mother Roslyn and I are extremely proud of this accomplishment," said Dorian's Dad Craig Gregory.
An accomplishment that didn't come easy. The council is an opportunity to express opinions, ideas, and solutions to solve problems stemming from national disasters.
"It makes me think of memories I had with disasters. It's not a good thing to come home too."
Dorian and his family experienced both Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Seeing the devastation first hand, he wants to help people through the toughest times, using his faith, love of community and now a group of a select few honored with the task of tackling national challenges.
"It's convenient not to confront things and I believe if God brings you to anything, he can bring you through it."
