Thread: Position battles

  1. Default Position battles

With the Aug. 2 start of training camp for the Ragin' Cajuns fast-approaching, UL coach Mark Hudspeth expects a few battles to brew before the 2012 season gets under way. Perhaps the biggest, Hudspeth suggested during Sun Belt Conference ...

I'm curious to see if there truly is a position battle at RB. That is a mystery position because none of us have really gotten the chance to see any of our backs outside of Harris and none of them have game experience. At LB, I think Anderson is too good to keep off the field and I expect to see him at either outside LB or inside.

I hope they run the same defense they used against SDSU. Anderson was all over the field that night.

Interesting. The article truly didn't talk about a whole lot. The main points were that it mentioned Hud talking about RB and that Harris is not necessarily the penciled in starter although he will enter the fall at the top. Coach mentioned that those other guys were pushing him and he would have to earn the starting spot. Also, Justin Anderson has been starting at MLB but Qyen is pushing him as well. That was basically it.

I know high school football is a big difference from college, but what I saw from Montrel Carter in high school is this kid has field vision which you either have it or you don't. Now I think the only thing that will hamper him is his size which is something that you can control in college throught a weight program. I am not saying he will overtake Harris, but I can see where this part may become true.

Great thing is they are completely different kinds of backs....one won't replace the other, they will just compliment each other.....our running game was one dimensional last year, it will not be this year. We will be hard to stop.

A look at some key dates for the Cajun football team:
Aug. 1: Players report for training camp
    Aug. 2: Camp opens
Aug. 26: Fan Day at the Cajundome
Sept. 1: Season opener vs. Lamar at Cajun Field
Sept. 8: First road game, at Troy
Dec. 1: Regular-season finale, at Florida Atlantic

    BREAKOUT 2:
    BATTLES BREWING
A few position battles of note when the Cajuns open training camp Aug. 2:

    On offense
Incumbent Alonzo Harris vs. Effrem Reed, Montrel Carter and Torrey Pierce for playing time at running back
Ian Thompson vs. Jacob Maxwell and Larry Pettis for the right to start at tight end

    On defense
Justin Anderson vs. Qyen Griffin for the starting job at inside linebacker next to Jake Molbert
Delvin Jones, Le'Marcus Gibson, Dominique Tovell and Boris Anyama for playing time at the two outside linebacker spots

    The rest of the story

I mentioned this a while back---I think that Harris would be an outstanding H back----And now with 20 extra pounds just think of his blocking ability---you can have him at some FB and don't forget maybe the best hands on the entire team---talk about a threat coming out of the backfield---OH he was that this year!!!

Boomer, he is also quite possibly the best every down NFL type tailback ever to line up for us. I would not move him until/unless One of those other guys is phenomenal.

-----Wait a second---Aren't you the ANTI-Gautier guy from Abbeville???? LOL ------I will have to get BWK's thoughts on this, but I think H back could be his top place if used in the fashion I have described!!!!
