Two Dead After Lafayette House Fire
Allen Potier Jr. and Patricia Ingram died in a fire in the 1000 block of Pinhook Rd Friday morning. Dozens of firefighters battled the blaze and hot spots for several hours. The flames and smoke were so thick, and first responders tried their best to resuscitate the couple. "They were already dead before we got there. There was nothing we could do to try and save their lives," said Lafayette Fire Chief Robert Benoit.
Two men on their way to work tried to help, but when they knocked on the doors, it was too late. "It's kind of hard to take right now because they had people in there. It's just unbelievable," said Jon Brown. Down the road, the pain and emotions of the fire run high at Progressive Baptist Church and its Food Net outreach program. Potier worked there Wednesdays and Fridays for eight years. "It's truly going to be a loss in the community. Everybody knew of Allen riding his bicycle and helping anybody in the community," said Kitty Joseph.
Friends say Potier and his girlfriend were together for at least 10 years, and she was also active in the community. Friends say they were always together and it was love at first sight. "We don't know the plans god has, but that was the plan where the Lord took both of them, and I can at least say they are both in heaven because they are a blessed couple."
