Thanks for the info Johanssen, I think the number one thing a sports program can do for future growth is remember the past.

    Good move.

  4. UL Basketball Basketball Reunion- Public Paticipation

The public can participate in the reunion in several ways, as follows:

    1. Visit the site and learn of all the players from the past, starting with profiles from 1931. Also, pictures are posted in the photo gallery, basketball link.
    2. Attend the game and help recognize the players, coaches, managers, and athletic trainers at half-time.
    3. Go to the Cajundome lobby immediately after the half-time ceremony and participate in the picture/autograph party.
    4. Help spread the word by telling others about the event. Attempt to help us locate those players who profiles are not posted.
    5. Contact former players, coaches, managers, and athletic trainers whose profiles are posted and inform them of how you feel about their reunion.

The reunion is being sponsored by the Athletic Network. The Athletic Network web site has only been operational since August 28, 2002.

There was a previous reunion on Nov. 2-3, 2001 for all participants of the Shipley Era and much of it was open to the public. The Shipley Web Site is still operational at www.coachshipley.com and may be accessed directly or throught the link on the Athletic Network.

Contact Ed Dugas for more information by phoning 337-482-0999 or emailing athleticnetwork@louisiana.edu

Why 1931? Is that the oldest athlete still alive?

  6. Default athletic network

The athletic network site has only been under construction since late August, so the massive amount of information we have to post will take months to put in. Right now, our main focus is getting in touch with former athletes to allow them to communicate with each other. If you look at the site, you will see we have members from all over the world. Dr. Ed Dugas, a longtime faculty member, put together the Shipley Reunion last year, which was a hugh success. Dr. Dugas is now the coordinator for the Athletic Network, and with his hard work, we are getting good responses from former and current athletes. To answer your question, we do have an AN member from that '31 team, Sid Naquin. Mr. Naquin will be in attendance at the basketball reunion. The other years that we post are just by random selection, or based on the amount of information we have. This site will be under construction for a while, but when complete, will have info on every sport for every year. Thanks for your interest.

Dr. Ed Dugas is a class act.

  8. UL Basketball response to reunion

The response to the reunion has been very positive. A big part of that is the fact that it has never been done. I think anyone who has followed this program in the last 30-35 years will agree that it is long over due. Through the athletic network website, we have been able to locate and sign up just about every player from the Shipley era to the Evans era. Hopefully we will be able to eventually do this sort of thing for every sport.

You know what would be cool?

If some-of those that are far away-could call in or be called. Like Brett Smith in Australia.

  10. UL Basketball Contacting former players

Dr Dugas wrote personalized letters to every basketball player that we had an address for (which is almost every player from the last 50 years) He did speak with Brett, but unfortunately Brett has already made plans to come to Lafayette in February. We are attempting to contact every player. With the help of Gerald Hebert, everything for the players is complimentary. Thanks for helping us spread the word.

I was wondering if the athletic network can tell me who has graduated or is this to personal?

Are the women players like those who played with Miss Perrot going to be there?
