Standoff Ends Peacefully at Morgan City Boat Races

A Morgan City man is under arrest after a standoff with police.

39 year old Larry Pontiff is facing domestic abuse battery, simple battery and false imprisonment charges.

Officers say they were called to a camper at Lake End Park, where Pontiff's girlfriend reported she was assaulted by Pontiff and that he held her and a friend against their will for a short time.

Police say when they went to question Pontiff, he locked himself in his camper and refused to come out.

There were larger crowds in the park this weekend because of boat races and amid reports that Pontiff was armed, police evacuated the nearby area as a precaution.
