Those BCS schools have so much info available on their sites! Ours basically just has a teams schedule, roster, stats, coaches, after game write up, and not much more than that.

    Give me:
    • wallpapers (so I don't have to make them. I enjoy it. Just hard to find the time to make them!)
    • screensavers
    • audio
    • live stats
    • band info
    • stadium info
    • gameday info (parking, tailgating, etc.)
    • schedules
    • FUTURE SCHEDULES (don't wait until it is 100% done to release, we know it is not final, let us know what the schedule is looking like so far.
These are just some of the things I expect from a decent NCAA Div 1-A school's athletic website. And I expect it to be updated MANY times a day. It should take a staff of people to do. I work with computers everyday, they can hire me (not that I know much about websites, some but very little), I would love to move back to Lafayette, and get outta Baton Rouge, and get away from these LSU fans!

Am I going to far to want these things? I'll admit...probably! And I know it all takes $$$ we ain't got.

    rant off...
This is from a previous post:

John Dugas who is assisting with the development of RaginCajuns.com informed me that they are in the planning stages of a totally new site. He said that they will have a new server, and will be on par with other major university athletic websites.

The site will have the same type of information that it has now, but will also have added features such as an on line store for Ragin' Cajun merchandise, on line auctions, an improved news engine, poll questions, photo galleries, audio & video, and much, much more.

He expects the new site to be up and running in 2-3 months.

Yeap our website is an embarrasing!

    Someone please update it!

I am super excited about the new website. To me it is worth the wait, and I know it's GOT to be better than what we have now. There's nowhere to go but up. But I do agree that the timing is absolutely horrible. I know one of the fiirst things I do each week is visit the opposing team's athletic website. (There are some great ones out there.) So I must agree that this is probabbly the worst time to have ours down. Even if it isn't aesthetically pleasing and hasn't a single bell nor whistle, it's still better than nothing or linking to the AN. They do great work at the AN, and I appreciate them stepping up to help out, but it's not the same as visiting an official athletic site.
I'm not ususually a big critic of athletics because I always figure they know more about what they're doing than I ever could, so maybe there's a method behind the madness that I just don't get. Perhaps there are mitigating factors to the timing. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, especially since there's not a darn thing I can do about it anyway.
Now, what the heck is this thread supposed to be about?

  4. UL Football Babb, young UL WRs coming together

LOUISIANA La. — Jerry Babb has 473 pass completions during his University of Louisiana at Lafayette football career, but only 56 of those have been caught by the Cajuns’ current wide receivers.

When ULL visits the University of Houston at 6 p.m. today at Robertson Stadium, Babb will try to get more accustomed to the young receivers as they mature into a more cohesive group.

In ULL’s first two games this season at LSU and Texas A&M, Babb completed eight of 25 attempts and had two interceptions.

Learning the nuances and movements of four receivers who are sophomores and younger has been difficult, Babb said.

“We have a very young group of receivers who really have no senior leadership to look up to,” said Babb, who threw for two touchdowns last week in ULL’s 33-14 win over Eastern Michigan. “It’s taken awhile for all of us to develop a communication and start making plays.”

The Athletic Network does an incredible job there is nothing like it in the country, we are fortunate to have it. Thanks Ed Dugas.

Still, AN was not designed to be an "official" up to the moment stat, roster, schedule type web site. That is what fans and opponents expect and deserve.

By the same token RaginPagin could never get away with being a Ragin'Cajuns.com replacement either, not even for a day. I just hope there is niche room for a site like this.

Point is, we often brag about our computer dept., yet the website is second class. We are all looking forward to the new site but the question is why are we behind?

This school has dropped the ball when it comes to marketing the nickname "Ragin Cajuns". I've been in many stores throughout our own state that sell college/university paraphenalia and find all the schools except us. There was a store in the Riverfront in New Orleans that would have Southern Univ., LA Tech, even McNeese hats/shirts etc. and not one darn thing from UL. I'd ask the manager why and he had no idea.''Guess they don't care" was his answer.

If you want answers of how to get things rolling, go back and read the thread that was on here a few weeks ago about another UL-U. of Louisville and we can see that it is possible with the right moves.

This is very good news. The one thing I do not want is a site hosted on cstv.com. Example, UL-Monroe (http://ulmathletics.cstv.com/) is hosted on cstv.com, I just do not like these sites. Hopefully we will continue to host our own site on ragincajuns.com. I don't see why we wouldn't.

I think some good models (all in SBC) for a site is:
    http://www.asuindians.com/
    http://www.meangreensports.com/
    http://www.goblueraiders.com/

They host their own site, it looks good, and has all the things fans wants to see in a athletic site. These all seem to be using the same software and technology to do their website. And, if I had to guess, I would bet ours will look a WHOLE LOT LIKE these when we are done.

I am looking forward to the new site...still think they should be updating the old one though. WAY BACK (when it was much easier to do) when I used to do websites, whenever I totally re-did a site, I NEVER stopped updating the old one to concetrate on making the new one. You do both at the same time. It is hard to do, but you find the time.

I agree marketing Ragin' Cajun merchandise is a place that we need to make huge improvements. Please send an email to Eric Maron and let him know (nicely please) how you feel about this issue. I talked to Gerald about this but he has no control over merchandising. I think the more people he hears from about this the better chance we have to improve on it.
