Not necessarily a bcs bid would be needed. A top 25 ranking would send us to a better bowl period. Secondly we would have needed a better showing against LSU and Tamu to warrant a better bowl. We didn't have to win those games, they just needed to be closer. Also like a previous post, the second place team in the SBC that would have made some nat'l attention like troy did a few years back would get them into a another bowl. The sunbelt will always send its number 1 to New Orleans unless that team is highly ranked nationally. Until the conference as a whole gets much better in OOC play, the sbc won't be able to get contracts with other bowl games. It's not just what UL does in this situation, its how the conference overall compares with the rest of the nation. A win over houston is a big step in the right direction though.
It's more fun to go to the radio show at Petes and make faces at Jay while he's on the air...............Originally Posted by BirdofParadise

The problem for the sbc is that Bowls have conference tie ins as long as the conferences have eligible teams to do so. Two years ago South Carolina and Clemson decided to skip bowl season and fight on the final day of the regular season putting two lower bowl teams into those spots and moving two teams that were previously not bowling into bowl games. Troy just so happened to be the last D-1 school with 6 wins making them bowl eligible. Last year on the other hand no fights and many eligible outsiders. Louisiana, La Tech, New Mexico... there were 5 or 6 I don't remember them all.

Only at large bowl bid left, the rest of the bowls have conference tie ins. This is the first bowl of the season and I believe a good season by a mid major would have a good shot at this, Arkansas State, MTSU, Troy, Louisiana.
I think that we'll be good with the NO Bowl this year, and for years to come. They moved it up this year. Its no longer the first bowl game, which sounds better in some folk's minds. Plus, its on the Friday before Christmas. Shouldn't have too much of a problem taking the afternoon off to get down there.Originally Posted by Jacob

UL's defensive football unit turned sack-happy at the end of the 2005 season, and that was part of the reason the Ragin' Cajuns won five straight Sun Belt Conference games to end the year.
Over the past three games, the Cajun defenders are starting to find the range on opposing quarterbacks, and it's not a coincidence that UL takes a three-game win streak into next Wednesday's Sun Belt opener at Florida Atlantic.
"Everybody's getting better at collapsing the pocket and corralling the quarterback," said junior defensive end Rodney Hardeway. "We're getting off the ball better, but more than anything else we're getting to use a lot of the moves that we learn in practice."
Officially, UL was credited with nine tackles for losses and five sacks in Saturday's 31-28 win at Houston. Hardeway, who has started every game since a first-game suspension, had one of those sacks and two tackles for lost yardage among his team-high seven tackles.
The Tyler, Texas, product had several other plays in which he didn't get a sack, but did disrupt standout UH quarterback Kevin Kolb's timing and footwork.

I'll be in Houston wed night and I'm looking for info on which Ragin Cajun Bar is the best to see a game. Any info would be appreciated.

There is their website. There are four locales, but, the one in the tunnel is only open during the day on weekdays. The one on WEstheimer is probably the best bet, i think it is the most popular one. But, it is a national TV game, so they should all have it, just depends on which one will be closest to you
