what we do need to hope for is our second place team to get an invite to another bowl and have a good showing. If our conference starts to play 2 bowls every year we will start getting the bigger recruits as a whole. It would be a huge step for our conference. Right now it looks like only middle tenn would have a shot at that if they only lose to us in conference and we run the table.

You are correct...for the future of the conference our 2nd place team needs to get an invite somewhere.

  3. UL Football Cajuns’ national TV exposure comes at a good time

Television is, by definition, an instantaneous medium, and that works out very well for UL’s football team.

The Cajuns will be seen by more people than any other regular-season game this season next Wednesday when they travel to face Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla. UL’s Sun Belt Conference opener airs at 6:30 p.m. (CDT) on ESPN2, which now goes into just over 86 million homes.

The Cajun squad was already in for its share of positive buzz during that broadcast, considering that they’re working on a five-game win streak in conference play, coming off a share of last year’s league title and were the consensus pick to win this year’s crown.

But since television aims at what happened most recently, there’s a new subject of focus for UL, courtesy of last Saturday’s 31-28 upset road win over Houston’s Cougars.

  4. UL Football Ragin' Cajuns capture huge win over Houston

Amazing. The University of Louisiana football team is right where it left off last season.

Even better though is what they have done to get there.

Starting the season 0-2 and winning the following two home games came more or less as expected. What happened Saturday however, did not (at least to most).

I mentioned it last week, and UL’s most important non-conference game of the year turned out glorious as the 17 point underdog Cajuns (3-2) rallied late to upset a very powerful and on the rise University of Houston team.

The Cougars (4-2), just last week came very close to beating Miami (Fla.) ultimately falling short 14-13 in the game’s final minutes.

Their quarterback Kevin Kolb has the school record for passing yards with 9,378. They led, and more than likely will win Conference USA. They are a fine football team.

Sounds great, and indeed it is, but it wasn’t enough for a determined Cajun team.

After being down 21-0 with the Cougar offense seemingly flawless and UL not getting any lucky breaks, the Cajuns realized if they were to win they would have to take it themselves.

UL Football DOES ANYONE HAVE A CURRENT INJURY REPORT

something as of yesterday. I hope we don't rush fisher back too soon. However i trust the coaches would let his knee heel totally before throwing him back out there b/c we will need throughout the season. These ten days should do alot for getting people healthy.

Fisher, the staff believes, will be ready. Risher, however, will not play again this week.

Cajuns will probably get Derik Keyes back this week as well.

Don't forget what Troy did a few years ago. They defeated Missouri on their way to a winning record. As a result, they were invited to some bowl out in California. Their opponent was NIU.

    During the radio show, yes.

Not necessarily a bcs bid would be needed. A top 25 ranking would send us to a better bowl period. Secondly we would have needed a better showing against LSU and Tamu to warrant a better bowl. We didn't have to win those games, they just needed to be closer. Also like a previous post, the second place team in the SBC that would have made some nat'l attention like troy did a few years back would get them into a another bowl. The sunbelt will always send its number 1 to New Orleans unless that team is highly ranked nationally. Until the conference as a whole gets much better in OOC play, the sbc won't be able to get contracts with other bowl games. It's not just what UL does in this situation, its how the conference overall compares with the rest of the nation. A win over houston is a big step in the right direction though.

It's more fun to go to the radio show at Petes and make faces at Jay while he's on the air...............

The problem for the sbc is that Bowls have conference tie ins as long as the conferences have eligible teams to do so. Two years ago South Carolina and Clemson decided to skip bowl season and fight on the final day of the regular season putting two lower bowl teams into those spots and moving two teams that were previously not bowling into bowl games. Troy just so happened to be the last D-1 school with 6 wins making them bowl eligible. Last year on the other hand no fights and many eligible outsiders. Louisiana, La Tech, New Mexico... there were 5 or 6 I don't remember them all.

Only at large bowl bid left, the rest of the bowls have conference tie ins. This is the first bowl of the season and I believe a good season by a mid major would have a good shot at this, Arkansas State, MTSU, Troy, Louisiana.
