GEAUX CAJUNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just got back from our anniversary, checked the scoreboard and pounded on my desk in glee.
Great game!! Let's keep it going for conference play - where it really matters.
P.S.: Who said the Sun Belt can't get OOC wins?!
UH watches helplessly as victory turns to defeat
Louisiana-Lafayette scores game's final 18 points as Cougars blow three-TD lead
The Houston Cougars spent much of the past week entertaining thoughts of a special season, one full of history-making moments and a possible Conference USA championship.
They now will spend this week mulling one of the biggest — if not the biggest — chokes in school history.
That might seem harsh, but it certainly is defensible after UH blew a three-touchdown lead en route to a stunning 31-28 loss to Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday night before 17,543 at Robertson Stadium.
Rather than the victory bell, which delivers one clang for every point the Cougars score in a home win, there were only alarm bells sounding after this improbable turn of events.
Indeed, the Ragin' Cajuns not only took the game but also robbed the UH players of their swagger and momentum as they prepare for next Saturday's C-USA game at Southern Mississippi.
"I don't know what I can say," Cougars coach Art Briles said. "(It was) demoralizing, gut-wrenching."
One week after fighting to a tough one-point loss at Miami, UH came home and somehow found a way to blow a 21-0 second-quarter lead. Louisiana-Lafayette scored the final 18 points, including the game-winning touchdown on a 4-yard pass from Jerry Babb to Kevin Belton with 1:02 remaining. Babb then passed to Derrick Smith for the two-point conversion that put the Ragin' Cajuns up by three points and the Cougars in panic mode.
The oddest part is that everyone — the players included — had a sense that the momentum was swinging toward Louisiana-Lafayette.

Seriously folks, I've made up my mind to never make another prediction on a UH football game. This will be the third week in a row that I'll be heaping my plate high with steaming crow.
Then again, I don't think I'll be the only one eating crow this time. I'm certain no one, other than a few overzealous Louisiana-Lafayette fans, predicted that the Cougars would be embarassed in a 31-28 loss to the Ragin' Cajuns before the 17,543 in attendance at Robertson Stadium on Saturday night. Because Houston was still smarting from its close 14-13 loss to Miami last weekend, I figured the Cougars would be prepared to take out their frustrations on this mediocre opponent. I figured wrong.
Of course, none of this ran through my mind early in the second quarter. Houston (4-2) was ahead 21-0 with 14:06 remaining in the first half, and was completely picking apart the ULL defense. Honestly, it was quite a comfortable situation. Turned out to be a little too comfortable.
HOUSTON (AP) -Jerry Babb's 4-yard touchdown pass to tight end Kevin Belton with 1:02 remaining lifted Louisiana-Lafayette to a 31-28 victory against Houston on Saturday night.
The Cajuns (3-2), who fell behind 21-0 early in the second quarter, went 85 yards on 18 plays in a drive that consumed 6:46, and Babb capped the deciding score with a two-point conversion pass to receiver Derrick Smith.
The Cougars (4-2) dropped their second in a row despite 367 passing yards from Kevin Kolb.
Lafayette controlled the second half with an effective rushing attack. Tyrell Fenroy had 88 of his 110 after halftime as the Cajuns outgained Houston 269-38 on the ground. Fenroy's 18-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter cut Lafayette's deficit to 28-23.
Kolb continued to break records at the school that produced prolific passers Andre Ware and David Klingler. His 14th game of 300 or more passing yards moved him one ahead of Klinger, and his 58-yard pass to Jeron Harvey in the first quarter set a school completions record and led to Jackie Battle's 2-yard run for a 7-0 lead.
UL HEAD COACH RICKEY BUSTLE
On UL's performance
"I feel like we beat a top-25 team. I think Houston is that good. I felt we took their best shots early and we hung in there. We went into the game feeling like we needed to open up a little bit and wanted to establish the run and you can't bail from it. We went into to halftime and decided that we needed to throw the football more and it open up some running lanes for us. I just wanted to stop the bleeding in the 1st (quarter). As we got in the second we scored and after the fake punt we had another opportunity and we were back in."
On the stop before halftime
"At halftime I think that was a big stop we had right there. I think our players felt confident that we took a great shot from them."
Game plan against UH QB Kevin Kolb
"We gave him as many looks and tried to confuse him a little bit and did some basic in the second half and made him move a little bit"
On the play of QB Jerry Babb
"Jerry is a senior you don't have to tell him that much cause he believes in what we are doing."
UL LAFAYETTE TIGHT END KEVIN BELTON
On the game winning play
"We run that play about two or three times everyday in practice. We end up running it in the game and we got a touchdown."
On how the win feels
"It feels awesome. It feels as just as good coming back from behind and beating UL Monroe last year."
UL LAFAYETTE QUARTERBACK JERRY BABB
On this game being a signature win
"This is one of the best wins I've been around. We were down early against an extremely good team. We played as a team we made plays in special teams and defense stepped up."
On coming from 21-0 down to win
"The defense got after it. We knew we had to drive the ball. We couldn't do that back to back in the first half and were able to do it in the second."
UL LAFAYETTE CORNERBACK MICHAEL ADAMS
On slowing down the UH offense
"We really didn't change too much we did the same things. We gave up some cheap ones early we wasn't challenging like we should have and we came in and talked about it halftime."
On UL's halftime adjustments
"They had not done anything short on us. It was just screens and everything else was deep. We just figure we would play the deep ball and we will give the short stuff if they wanted to run that. "
On UL's second-half mentality
"These guys had a lot of speed. You had to give them some room and let them do something and then try to make the tackle. Sometimes, they made us miss when we had the guy there."
How many fans did UL have at the game?
Great job cajuns.
God Bless

The bad thing for Houston is that UL probably brought 5,000 and it was band night with several high school bands & their parents accounting for about 3,000. Doesn't leave too much for Houston to call their own.........:confused:Originally Posted by shasta
Also, in the Houston paper they keep trying to say that Houston gave away the game........Those of us that were there know that the Cajuns EARNED IT!!!!!![]()
