    If this is about the program, then why does every time Southall's name come up, it becomes the longest thread on any UL message board (besides the Predict-the-yardage threads).

    Notice we never won a SBC tourney with Southall and we've won 2 in a row without him. And wasn't he released from his scholarship before he even got to KY because of his drug arrest? Yep.
    We are not Kentucky. We do not have the same caliber basketball program they have. We have so much more risk involved. When they pass on Southall because of his problems what happens? They get another Blue Chip prospect instead. They have nothing to worry about. In order to pull in the best you have to start somewhere. If we had nothing but top notch scholars with average at best playing ability, this program would not be looked at by any top notch players, nor would it have any recruiting benefits. We would always be average at best and would never have a chance to improve. Somewhere along the lines you have to take a risk. Its a gamble just like in the casino, but you cant win what you dont put in the pot. Eventually you have to put your balls to the wall and say we need to make every attempt to make this the best team it can possibly be, even if that includes having shady characters on your team. Once you get your name out there as a true contender, then you have the opportunity to pass on the more risky players, because you have more to work with. Just some food for thought.

    *I'm gonna be so freakin' embarassed after we destroy everyone in the sunbelt with 14 feet of goodness in the paint on our way to the Sweet 16. I cannot believe that WKU fans don't want Mike Southall to return! I would be so excited and completely encourage it if Chris Marcus returned to the Toppers, wouldn't you?

    * Denotes extreme sarcasm.

    People second guessed Robert Lee's abilities and they hired Glenn Cyprien. People second guessed Robert Lee's abilities when he was named head coach.
    All he has done thus far is have the best record of any first year Cajun coach, win a Sunbelt championship, had a great NCAA showing, interact with fans and bring tradition back to Cajun games, had the first player drafted since Kevin Brooks, and had the HIGHEST overall GPA of any basketball team in 20 years.
    Maybe it's time to trust Robert Lee.

    I missed seeing Southall the first time around. This time I really really want to see him play.

    MS, don't let Coach Lee down. He is putting his neck on the line for you and taking a lot of heat for it.

  11. UL Basketball Southall the bottom line

    The bottom line is that the Cajuns will be a legitimate top 25 team with an in-shape and focused Southall in line up. His problems seem to be behind him so let's just suppor the team....

    A win in NCAAs and ranking this year and another plaer drafted by NBA will do wonders for the program and wake up the sleeping giant that is Cajuns athletics and what we have been hearing about so long...

    If all we here this summer about Southall is true he is probably a better student-athlete now than the majority of other 1-A basketball players in the country...

    Sure, he is motivated by last chance to save his career and big NBA dollars..., but good for him... and good for all Cajuns fans that we will have one of the most dominating front courts in the country, something that usually mid majors don't have... We will not be a dangerous team just because of some sharp shooters and athletes, will will be extremely dangerous in NCAAs because of an ability to both run and play half court. Cameron will be free to play his outside game when he moves to his more natural forward position. This guy Ed Turner is supposed to be NBA possible in his own right and we all know what Mitchell and others can do... We will see about some of the top rated new recruits as well.

    I think we will have 4 legitimate pro prospects in starting line up, even if only 1 goes to NBA.

    Can we please stop talking about what this will do to the program? I am more worried about the press the university will receive. This is a place of higher learning first, athletics is second. Everyone says that he's screwed up, but every time he's screwed up, its made front page here. To me, the negative publicity that will be brought on the university greatly outweighs the positive that can come out of this situation.

    In a business world, you cut your losses when you can. MS has been a loss for the university twice. Cut your losses and move on.
