Yep, real bad decision on Coach's part.

The fault could have fallen on the coach; Boyd may have been given the green light by Evans, i.e. Tiras and Lee. I never talked to Evans to find out. If the fault falls on the coach, then Boyd wasn't used properly and neither were the two big men (Southall/Cameron). Our success in those days rode quite a bit on talent, they looked disorganized at times (Hamilton and Antoine Landry saved our AS"""). I'm a huge cajun basketball fan and a fan of traditional play, Lee seems to enforce the discipline and skills needed to play the right way. If Southall plays, we'll see him hustle a hell of a lot more and not loaf down the court after a made basket. Southall's improved composure will be obvious, if he plays. Just my opinion...we're all entitled to one.

I dont think you are going to win this argument, just a hunch!

    Good point!

I do feel coach is playing with fire, but as long as he can control that fire no one will remember this! I support the General and his staff as well as, the entire Ragin Cajun Athletic Coaching staff and as long as they are winning by not cheating, buying players, who am I to judge!

    GEAUX CAJUNS!
    Undefeated in '05!

Here's the deal if you paid societies debt I don't think you have to pay more negative debt every step along the way. At some point you pay back society by contributing not by being held back. This could be the year Southall contributes to society

I think that's the bottom line of how I feel.

Does have Mike back make me nervous? Of course it does. Yet another mistake on his part would be a huge embarrassment to the university and the basketball program.

But even the biggest screwups can change, even much bigger ones than Mike has been.

But if everyone casts them aside, then how are they to prove their worthiness? To say, "the hell with you, you've had your chance(s)" to a kid, without re-evaluating his situation seems very un-Christian to me.

Am I saying that we need to take in every screwed up underachiever out there? Of course not. Absolutely not. But I think an evaluation of how long he has been clean, his sincerity, his current work ethic, etc., are certainly in order for some cases.

Of course, the same was said before. Everyone thought after he sat out a year because of academics, he was going to be great coming back in 2004. Where was he in 2004 while we went dancing? He was in jail! We would be the laughing stock of the NCAA tourney if we make it back with Southall. I hear the commentary now:

"And Louisiana-Lafayette makes the field with a guy who just spent a year in jail!"

    Thanks Boyd
Turbine...with all the different threats that will be on our squad...we should see a lot more of this type of play! Hope Barksdale pans out to be a good PG

Only you could muster up a goofy comment like that! If we make it to post season play...without a MS mishap...they will probably speak on how GREAT it is that he was able to turn his life around! motivation....Motivation to other people who have made mistakes in their lives!

However....if he does not pan out.....they just might laugh at us, hell I might laugh a little myself!

You would not be the only person upset, but atleast we could say we gave this guy a chance.(he must first prove to The General he deserves a chance)!

Like any good stock option there is risk involved, a kids future is worth the risk if he is truley committed!!!
