Thread: Athlete (2001-2003) Michael Southall

This team has a long way to go to live up to some people's expectations, not the least of which is their own. There is talent in place to be impressive, but with the schedule filled with no pushovers, there is very little time for them to mesh. I know we want to be strong for conference, but this team has a chance to make some national noise in the pre-conference schedule with games against Southern Illinois, Tennessee, Charlotte, Texas-El Paso, LSU & Nevada. Next Friday is going to be here sooner than I'd like. I'm glad Robert is the coach, they will be as ready as they can be for that game.

    Oh, the bad part.

The Ragin Jazz halftime show. If you saw it, you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

I know what you're talking about, but he IS the best dancer on the Ragin Jazz without question. Something must be wrong with me....there were a mess of good looking girls out there & I watched the dude the whole time:confused:

I agree beer makes people louder. Everyone is louder and more excited with a few beers in them! All night I felt like something was missing; it was the beer.

You know somthing is off kilter when you point out that one of the Ragin' Jazz is Homecoming Queen and they ask . . . "Queen?"

We looked pretty good and we are going to be exciting to watch but it will be hard to replace the defense of orien and brian hamilton. I think ed turner will be just as good as tyres wade. Big Mike looks like he is playing to get a contract and i like it. He looked hungry and excited to be on the team. Even on the bench he never stopped cheering. maurice b can handle the ball very well. Mitchell is an absolute freak of nature. Lets put that kid in some pads. He is huge and looks as though he got quicker and stronger. He may also get a shot in the nba. That would be great for the program if we had Orien, Big Mike, and Mitchell in the league.

Between Southall, Cameron, & James; we will own anything close to the basket. Mitchell's ball handling has improved, Barksdale can handle the ball, some of the new guys (Fields, Turner) look like they can contribute right off the bat. Even Rhett hebert made a good shot. Southall will outright dominate some games this year and make them laughable. We could have gone to Southall everytime tonight.

He was a man playing with boys...we'll see how he does with other men.

If that's how he chooses to carry himself as a man then I think "Queen" would be an accurate word to use when describing him.

I'm about as tolerant as they come but I firmly believe that a man should carry himself like a man. If a man chooses to carry himself like a woman he has that right and I won't take issue with that. But it's unfortunate and embarrassing when I see our university endorsing and promoting that kind of behavior.

Same thing I was telling my lsu buddy sitting next to me "Dude there something wrong with you, look at all the hot chicks out there." We're turning 30 next month and I was trying to salvage any youth we have left before we become over the hill. I'm checking out that hot one with the highlighted bangs he's checking out the dude. Talk about a buzz kill. The 2nd half started and and I had no dome foam to keep my mood going. I MISS THE DOME!!!!! Good thing we only have a four more game to go. Just enough for everyone to relive the memories and just in time to make new ones.

Well I have to say Southall seemed well into the game. This was my first time seeing him play after years of hearing the hype. lol I recall one time he missed a big block and he snapped his fingers and I swear I saw his mouth say "shucks" classic moment. The team overall seemed pretty strong. Mildly odd to see cameron staying outside but hell not too many teams can have a big guy like that to spare...lol Defense looked a little less involved than previous years but held ground obviously 92-53 doesn't just happen. VERY IMPORTANT.....word on beer. Do as a few friends of mine and drink for 2 hours before game. It'll hold ya till at least half. They didn't shut up.
While I respect gays totally I admit the guy thing kinda throws me off.

Oh yeah; since this thread was orginally about Southall, I wanna add my two cents for what its worth. I know a lot of people were bashing Southall these past two years. Many people are saying how many more chances. I respect everyones opinion and I am sure everyone just wants what is best for our University. 2005-06 is here now and Southall is apart of this team so lets all support the TEAM and get ready for a great ride.

There was a point in the first half when a group of people around me started to grumble when Southall left his man to give some help defense when teammate got beat. That led to a backdoor cut and a pass but the team recovered and the ball went out of bounds under the goal. The fans were getting restless and Southall looked our way. The ball was inbounded and a few seconds later Southall responded and swatted the ball our way. There were no more comments after that. Way to go big Mike.

Everything considered, I am very impressed with this team. Yes we have some work to do (what team doesn't) but everyone seems to be playing hard. Everyone that played seem to understand what Coach Lee wants from them and are trying hard to achieve the goals. There were mistakes but the effort was there. This team seems different. The team seems to be a little more mature. There was energy out on the floor but after every block or great play there was no trash talking and everyone got back and got ready for the next play.

Final Thought: What happened to Spencer Ford, Valentino Hart and Derek Gray?
