Thanks! We like Family Guy too! I dunno about the percussion thing. There's all kinds of rules for when we can and can't play.

  2. Louisiana Campus Parking still an issue at UL

By next fall, UL's first parking garage should be complete.

However, the new garage is expected to relieve little of UL's parking problems, said UL President Ray Authement.

"We're building one, and I'm predicting as soon as that one's complete, we'll have to look at a second one," he said.

In an interview with The Daily Advertiser, Authement named parking and traffic as the biggest issues facing the university this year.

Authement said he thinks the university may need at least two more parking garages - one at Cajun Field and another on the main campus.

The university's first parking garage was funded in part by student parking and transit fees.

Authement said he does not plan to ask students to vote on another fee for new garages.

Rather, Authement said he would like to move the money generated from the fees over to the other projects, once the first garage is paid off.

The first concrete placement for a portion of the fist level ramp was completed today. The first level is always the hardest because of the variable distance to the ground. Once they get to a constant distance between levels it should go pretty quick. I think they should be able to make it by next fall.

  4. Louisiana Campus UL campus a beehive of construction

LAFAYETTE — A 280-foot crane is but one sign of progress on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus this semester.

The crane, working on a parking garage at West Taft Street and East St. Mary Boulevard, lets students know that relief may soon come for the university’s persistent parking problems.

“The parking garage is in fabulous shape, really,” Physical Plant Director Bill Crist said.

He said the four-story garage, which will hold about 450 cars, is about 75 percent complete, and construction is ahead of schedule.

He said he hopes it will be ready for use by fall.

New construction on the ULL campus is not limited to low-tech parking garages.

Even better. They are finally repaving St. Mary through campus. Hopefully, they'll be done before the fall semester starts.

  11. Louisiana Campus New Parking Garage to open in spring

UL's first parking garage will be open when students return in January for spring classes.
The parking garage has been a multiyear project riddled with delays ranging from weather woes to escalating construction costs that pulled the project back into the design phase - that was in 2005.

"There are a few things the contractor has left to do," said William Crist, UL physical plant director. "The university is purchasing security and gate equipment. We can't open without the proper safety in place to make sure it's a safe facility to operate."

In fall 2002, students voted to increase their parking and transit fee for the construction of a parking tower and other transit improvements.

In 2005, the original five-story, 500-space design was reduced by a story because of rising construction costs.

And bids for the parking garage project didn't close until May 2006. Back-to-back hurricanes Katrina and Rita also slowed the process.

The red and white Ragin' Cajuns buses will start making the loop from Cajun Field to Rex Street at 6 a.m. today.

The bus rides signal the start of the spring semester on UL's campus. Drivers can expect increased traffic near UL's campus and South Louisiana Community College, which also starts its spring semester today.

And as classes begin, so does the hunt for prime parking near or on campus for those who weren't lucky enough to win the on-campus permit lottery.

But one place students won't be parking is the university's long-awaited parking garage.
The parking garage is complete with the exception of some punch-list items, but it will be another two weeks before installation of security features for the structure will begin, said William Crist, UL physical plant director.
