Thread: Fenroy, UL focus on Eastern Michigan

  1. UL Football Digging up Stats

After 4 weeks of football and UL having played 2 teams on 1 end of the spectrum and 1 team on the other, plus 1 team closer to the middle, it might be fun and fairly accurate to dig up some stats to see where UL ranks.

Here is a LINK to current NCAA football stats.

For example after playing basically only 8 quarters of football total (4 halves) Tyrell Fenroy ranks 55th nationally in rushing yards per game at 70.75 per game.

74th, that is his ranking in net yards on season at 283 yos

He is tied for 87th in carries with 45

T-Train ranks 21st in average yards per carry at 6.29 ypc

    WOW

Don't forget either that when he was tackled for a 1 yard loss this past saturday against EMU it was the first time this year we has been tackled for a loss. And let me say it was not his fault that it happened. To go against teams like LSU and Texas A&M and get positive yards every carry says something about a running back.

    Thanks for the stats Turbine

I feel for these guys and their early season injuries. It is hell to keep fighting injuries and keep yourself physically and mentally going throughout the season. I admire those who can do it, and always hopeful that we have the right sports medicine folks making the right decisions.
Just shows that none of you people actually coach football... More injuries happen when you play a superior opponent because
    1. Your starters stay in longer
    2. Intimidated players second guess themselves, don't go full speed, and make mistakes, which leads to injuries
    3. Players of better teams "think" they are better than the opponents they are facing... they step it up and notch and try to humiliate an opponent.

Your starters stay in just as long when you are playing an evenly matched team. No coach in their right mind pulls the starters in a tie ball game.

Your are right I do not coach football. I do know that no matter who you play injuries will happen. Most of these injuries happened in fall drills. Maybe we should not scrimmage as we are too physical for our own good.

Lack of player rotation and/or leaving drained players in the game can lead to poor technique and unattentiveness. They can factor into injury. All else is stretching the actuals. Check into injury pathology. Most are joint injuries and they do not occur when players are displaying their size, power, or speed. First, their is only a marginal difference in any of these categories in the spread of teams in D1 football. It is the combined, cumulative contribution of coaching, players, staff, facilities (training, medical, etc) that make the separation you see in scores. I have not coached. And my opinion is not my Cajun-biased derivation. I have been friends with LSU staff and players over years, and have had these very discussions over many years.

Are Vanderbilt and Kentucky more injury-riddled due to their obvious unparalleled match-ups with the rest of the SEC? Check into it. The answer is no. These accusations occur mostly when someone wants to belittle a team like UL. Again, I will stand by my discussions with LSU staff and players. They don't buy this, except in motivational propoganda moments for fans and players.

Injuries are due to contact sports. Even a sloth can roll up on a All-American lineman's leg and end a career. Now, this attempt at needling UL football is punk. If you want to talk about good football, as I have read you are such a big all Louisiana state football school fan, then how about showing that side?

The Cajuns played 68 kids against La'State, probably more than against NC A&T.

I have the roster for the 2006 Spring game and we had like 20 players out due to injuries.

That's because we had no business being on the same field as the Cajuns...
we are light years behind that program.

No wonder there were so many injuries.

  10. Default TEAM RUSHING

Even with the well balanced schedule UL is already 19th in the country as a team with 194 yards rushing per game.

Among teams that have only played 4 games (38 in all) UL ranks 7th in number of carries, 7th in net yards and 8th in average per rush.

And that 194 per game is with only rushing for about 170ish against EMU. We could have pounded it even more. They sure weren't gonna stop us.

I sure hope their series of "money games" didn't put the rest of their season in jeopardy.
Well, if someone wants to go digging for data, FAU played 4 tough opponents to start the season. If the theory holds water, FAU should be decimated.
