Thread: Fenroy, UL focus on Eastern Michigan

  1. UL Football EMU tries to finish stronger

    Finishers.

That's what coach Jeff Genyk wants his Eastern Michigan football team to become.

Last year's 31-10 home win over the University of Louisiana was an all-too-rare example of his Eagles getting an opponent down and keeping them down. He'd like nothing better than for Saturday's game against UL in Cajun Field to be this year's first such example.

EMU, making its first-ever visit to Acadiana at 4 p.m. Saturday, lost three games by two points or less in last year's 4-7 season. Over the last two weekends, the 0-4 Eagles had several chances for a road win over a Big 10 conference team before falling 14-6 at Northwestern, and lost to in-state rival Central Michigan 24-17 in overtime.

"It's definitely very frustrating when you look at the films," said standout senior receiver Eric Deslauriers. "There's a few simple things that we could have done to change the outcome, but we couldn't pull it off."

"We're taking games down to the last possession," Genyk said, "but we haven't won them. We're confident in our improvement, but not in finishing teams off. We're lacking there."

  2. UL Football Opponents View: They're ragin' in Cajun Country

The Eastern Michigan football team's defensive line could have a difficult time stopping the Ragin' Cajun rushing attack of of Louisiana-Lafayette when they face them at 4 p.m. on Saturday in Lafayette, La.

If the fact that the Eastern Michigan football is 0-4 isn't bad enough, the team's next opponent's top running back says he's motivated to play against EMU since he is photographed being tackled on the cover of the Eagles' 2006 team media guide.

Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns' back, Tyrell Fenroy is fifth in the Sun Belt conference with 173 yards.

Fenroy is the star of the team and is paired up in the backfield with senior fullback, Chester Johnson, the team's leading rusher in 2003.

Senior quarterback Jerry Babb has attempted only 35 passes this season, and has 17 rushes for two touchdowns. Last season against the Eagles, Babb completed 21 passes for 228 yards. He also ran 12 times for 83 yards.

Five different Cajuns have rushing touchdowns this season, which could spell disaster for an Eagles defense that averages 188 yards rushing given up per game.

    Now that is scientific!!!!!!!!

Well then, using your logic I'll be filling up the 40-gal suburban from my trip in from SA; so that should get us about 81,000 for the game!

I am looking past these creeps, although I don't think the team is. EMU is giving up over 180 rushing yards per game. If they are that bad of a rushing defense team and we are that good of a rushing offense team, there is no reason why we won't/shouldn't score every time we touch the ball. Especially since we are starting to get a little depth on the O-line, so they can stay a little fresher, and because we have 3 or 4 RBs and 2 QBs (not that we will be using them both) that we can insert and always have somebody fresh and hungry pushing it down their throats. Their QB was already benched this year for his play, so if the defnese performs well and our CBs can pick it up, then there is no reason why we should win be 3 or 4 touchdowns.

    Cajuns win.
    Lots of people show up.

That's the only two things that matter on Saturday.
