Thread: Does the 102nd win at the Swamp remind you of win #89

  1. UL Football Does the 102nd win at the Swamp remind you of win #89

For me the 2 wins have more than a few similarities.

Do you know what game I am referring to?

Most fans wouldn't remember the last time UL shut out a football opponent. You can bet that Rickey Bustle knows, and that's why his only complaint with Saturday's 48-7 crunching of North Carolina A&T was the Aggies' touchdown in the final six minutes.

The Cajuns led 48-0 the entire fourth quarter, but A&T held UL on downs for one of the few times in the game and got good field position at mid-period.

The Aggies then drove 46 yards in nine plays, and scored on a fourth-and-goal on a fade pass from Wayne Campbell to Andre Garth.

"I hated to see them get that touchdown at the end,"Bustle said, "but they earned it. They worked it down there."

That late score cost UL its first blanking since late September in 2002 when the Cajuns shocked a decent Alabama-Birmingham team 34-0.

That happened to be Bustle's first win as a head coach, and hešs got a painted football in his office commemorating that victory. Itšs a virtual certainty that his Cajun team would have given Bustle his second career shutout had the staff not cleared the bench, the locker room and the lower rows of Cajun Field to play the final quarter. UL had 74 players see action on Saturday, and more than half came on defense.

I was at the UAB game. It was pouring, lightning delay, I was soaked head to toe.

After the win, the student section was the only ones still around. The whole team came over to our side and were whoopin it up with us.

    Very inspired game!

I remember when as a Student in the 70's, win or lose the student section was always full. Now we have an extra 3000 seats and visitor seating, it still should be that way.

Similarities and reminders made me want to see if you remember the contest between the student section and the home side. That contest was which side could YELL THE LOUDEST.

The cheerleaders would hold up big signs, on one side they would hold up YEA ROUGE, the cheerleaders on the other side would hole up YEA BLANCHE. Each side would try and outdo the other and it got loud.
Well right before the CAJUN WALK down Reinhardt Drive I found the head cheerleader and told her about this yell and suggested that the cheerleaders try and bring it back. She thought it was a good idea. Let's talk it up.
This is how they do at B'ball in Cajundome, so let's get them to bring it back at Cajun Field for the upcoming home games. IT REALLY WAS FUN.

Ever since that game, the players come to the students and give high fives after wins. One of the reasons I love to still sit in the student section.

Plus in the student section, the hot "fall" sun doesn't go behind the upper deck until real late in the afternoon so you get to "enjoy" every ounce of steaminess. Its a great way to spend a game delay when nothing is going on. And trust me, there is no shade on that side either. It almost made me want to go to the Home Team side and find where my season tickets are.

Really? I moved out of state at the end of that season to San Diego. Good to hear a new tradition was started.
I still have that "I'm in the Zone!!" shirt, too.
