The collective sigh of relief was louder than the thunder that rolled past Cajun Field late Saturday afternoon.

The University of Louisiana, shrugging off lackluster performances in its first two road games, released some pent-up emotions on an outmanned North Carolina A&T squad Saturday in its home opener. The result was a workmanlike 48-7 victory in which even Mother Nature couldn't slow down the UL attack.

Lightening delayed the start of the game by 45 minutes and again in the first quarter, but that hardly phased the Cajuns, who scored on their first six possessions and on seven of 10 in the game, while holding the Division I-AA Aggies without a score until their final possession against the bottom end of the UL defensive depth chart.

"We were kind of stuck in a rut those first two weeks," said Cajun quarterback Jerry Babb. "Tonight we had some good ball movement and we got into a rhythm offensively, especially running the ball."

That running attack ground out 330 yards - the fourth straight time that UL has rushed for over 300 yards in a victory. Babb scored twice on option runs, running back Tyrell Fenroy rushed for 104 yards and a score before leaving the game early in the third quarter, and four different backs had more than 50 yards rushing.
