I know it's a big chain and all, but when we went, all of our food was very good and our service was excellent. Wasn't really paying any attention to the decorum of the place though. Thoughts? Do you think the place will last? It's located in what a consider one of the "chain restaurant" locations in Lafayette so they have that going for them.
Everyone I've talked to says Cheddar's has OK food, but the service was pretty bad. I tend to attribute that to early kinks that will get ironed out as the staff settles and everybody gets the groove of things. I'll give them a month or two then I'll check it out.

As far as Mr. Keet's is concerned, I love the owner and I love the decor. But as a restaurant, I wasn't terribly impressed. There's better seafood out there for sure.

Where is all the UL gear in Baton Rouge? Oh wait...there isn't.

  5. UL 1984, 1999 . . . . Re: These folks will get dining business from me

To be fair Baton Rouge is 95% LSU, and Lafayette at worst is 50% LSU. IMO a sports oriented business that thinks it can make it on UL fans only needs to be excellant. If I were investing anywhere from a qauarter up I would want to be inclusive. Having a place with Ellis Who and UL stuff is not a bad thing. When UL fans create a demand for all things UL then such businesses will open until then point the fingers at ourselves.

I brought some colleagues to Mr. Keet's II last night. Right when we walked in they looked at me and smiled because they knew why I had chosen this place. The UL stuff on the wall is pretty impressive. That is about as far as the impressivesness goes though.....

At the end of the night I regretted bringing this crew from work. The place was completely empty all night. I think that may be bacause there is absolutely nothing on the internet about the new location! I had to call the place in maurice for the address. I hope they turn things around because we all know UL can use as many pro UL establishments as it can get.

So when you run a business, you actually want it to succeed? I am not and never will be an lsubra&m fan but name one place that is 100% UL that is successful? I see all the complaints about gear at Walmart being theirs; well, I haven't been in Walmart in a year; should they cater to me? Not if they want to still be there next year.

I don't like to see the stuff on the walls but it is much better than seeing it on the staff ... I'll go if it is a good place and I'll make a special effort if it is pro UL. Ultimately it will have to be good to succeed.

I ate at Baja Grill twice simply because it was pro UL. Service was atrocious and food wasn't very good.. but I returned for that reason. I was planning my third trip when it was bought out....

That being said.. any other restaurant wouldn't have got my return business.

I remember leaving a UL basketball game at halftime one evening (it was a school night and I had my son) so we stopped over at Baja to eat on the way home. 8 - 8:30 on a Tuesday night; they were closed for the night. Not good.

I hated to see them close as they were pro UL and Mike was/is a very nice guy. But they didn't have sports bar food and when we did go it was karaeoke (sp?) night and you couldn't hear anyone at your table. I know they were doing what they could to keep it open; Rouse's was probably a godsend.

I'm glad that there's a new pro-UL restaurant in town, but personally, I will never step foot in Mr. Keet's 2. I went to the Maurice location one time, and was with my dad, sister, brother-in-law, and 3 infants. The wait staff seemed aggravated the entire time, and God forbid we ask for extra crackers to keep the little ones entertained as we waited 45 minutes for our food to arrive. When it did finally get to our table, every single order was wrong, and most of the food was cold (not room temperature cold, refridgerator cold). Well, since we had already asked to talk to the manager about the attitudes of the wait staff and length of time to receive our food, when we talked to the manager for the 2nd time (could have been the owner, but with all of the people here saying what a nice guy he is, I would think it was not him), he started blaming us for being "complainers". And then it got really out of hand. This jack_____ ended up challenging my brother-in-law to a fight in the parking lot!! Needless to say, this was the worst dining experience I've ever had (if you can call it that since nobody actually ate more than a bite or two before realizing our food was ice cold). So like I said, there is no way in hell I'll ever enter that establishment.

Wow, that is not a plan for success! I haven't been to Mr. Keets in awhile but I would never be back in a place that I had that much fun in!
