Not long after Thursday's practice was over, defensive line coach Shawn Quinn was on the interstate, looking for more talent that will help Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns win football games.

That recruiting trip comes after three productive days of practice during the Cajuns' open date week, with the next action furnished by North Carolina A&T in the Sept. 23 home opener.

Louisiana has a long list of items to improve after losses at LSU and Texas A&M to open the year.

"Our focus this week was basic fundamentals that we needed to get corrected," Quinn said. "We have some new kids who did some good things in our first two games, but we're working on alignments and communication.

"We need to do a better job of shedding blocks. Our pass rush improved against Texas A&M. We got some sacks and hits."
