Thread: University of Louisiana Rated Most Affordable in State

Dave Ramsey just spent the last :20 minutes talking about not going into debt for a degree.

He said find the best price at University of _______.

Nation wide show so he wasn't talking about UL, but I bet if he had the numbers he would be saying a degree from UL would be the smart thing to do.

Fees are not an issue. Very low.

Tuition at UL should always be slightly higher than at La Tech and UNO, not the other way around. It is a matter of perception being reality. The average person outside of Acadiana thinks that the reason Tech can charge more is because Tech offers a superior product. That is BS. UL gets no credit from the average Joe for being so charitable with the price of our tuition. If it is now possible to do so, then I say we RAISE THE TUITION AT UL TO THE SECOND HIGHEST IN THE STATE! That way we could afford to transfer the full 3% allowed for athletics subsidies.

    Excellent price point.

A tuition cost of $33.50 more per semester would have prevented the theft.

For public universities in Louisiana "economies of scale" have "influenced" how tuition is set along with the usual politics.

For example, LaTech is smaller than UL, so it has a higher per hour tuition rate. On the other hand, LSU is almost twice as larger as UL, but it does not have double the tuition rate.

Tuition levels and academic quality are not directly related ... UL is a prime example.

UL is and has served the state well. This article will likely help attract more students.

UL, like many other Universities, certainly could use the money. UL would be better off raising the tuition and using the money wisely to better the facilities and improve faculty. Throw in an athletic fee while you're at it, to get the UL budget to a respectable level.

A few weeks ago, I included this as my opinion to Dr. T-Joe when I emailed him about our athletic conference situation.

Has he replied to your email? If so, can you share his thoughts? Thanks!

No reply from Dr. S. Scott Farmer replied, and it was just a basic generic message. Blah Blah Blah, thank you for your support.

We are a Public University and the idea here is to provide the greatest opportunity for a higher education, for as many people as is possible. I don't want someone to Not be a Ragin Cajun because it was cheaper to go to Nichols. The right thing to do would be to have tuition the same at all Louisiana Public Universities. But, in this State, that will never happen because that would be Right. This States other goal should be to have all of our public universities as highly rated as possible, with more per capita Tier One schools than any other state.
Most on this site, I believe, want more money so that it can go to athletics. As an alumni that follows his school no matter the football score, I'm proud of the degree I received and the path that it gave me at such a wonderful price. Thank-you Dr, Authement! As far as price for value, we could debate that forever and no-one would be totally right or wrong. I have spent thousands of dollars on UL athletics each year for 17 years and I do not want or need students to buy me athletic pleasure with fees. Thomas

I agree completely. I am all for athletics but let the Athletic Department stand or fall on its own. To heck with subsidizing athletics too much and, we are not second rate because we have reasonable rates. We have good professors that are partially sponsored by endowments which make up for chronically poor legislative support. Athletics needs to put a financially successful product on the field and earn their way just like students in the classroom. Programs all need to pay their own way as much as possible. Look at Robe, an average Baseball Coach, but a financially successful program. Marlin need to step it up - Hudspeth showed him what is possible for a Coach that gets it! Don't say it can't be done - look at the Lotiefs' - Women's Softball is not a big draw at most NCAA programs. There are strength in numbers, more student - more alumni - more long term support, and I think Imperial Cajun hit the nail on the head - some want to force the students too pay more just for Athletics sake - Let the Athletic teams earn their way like everybody else. Its like forcing people to pay Union Dues whether they want too or not. Enough of this Liberal Democratic Nonsense. "FREEDOM" - Remember William Wallace!!!
