Thread: Softball Ranked 9/12 in Final Season Polls

  1. Default Softball Ranked 9/12 in Final Season Polls

Coming off a regional title and a 53-6 record, the Ragin’ Cajuns softball team ended the season ranked No. 9/12, respectively, in the final release of the national polls, which were announced on Tuesday.

Great year, 2nd best record in the country.

Funny how one school went all the way from "Receiving Votes" to being ranked 7th in the country.

By that standard, Kent State and Stony Brook will be ranked no lower than 7th and 8th in the final baseball poll.

To say that that school had the 7th best team in the country...or the 7th best body of work in the country...is just plain ridiculous. But then so much that happens in the softball world doesn't surprise me at all.

Yeah...right now I'll put the Seawolves right about 5th.

I think softball has always had all of the WCWS participants ranked in the top 8 for the final polls.

Interesting that UL is first team post 8 in CWS. Silly. If we had beaten ASU, wonder where we would have been. From 7 to 12 based on one game. Wow.

That makes sense. So if a .500 ball club wins their tourney and then plays out their rears...and makes it to the WCWS...they are a top 8 team? That's the softball world.

It's a stretch claiming that there are 11 teams better than Louisiana. What have we learned about the polls everybody?

And LSU loses 25 that's correct 25 games and finishes 4-5 slots ahead of us---Sometimes you can't win for losing or whatever the hell that means---Congrats ladies----Maybe you can read my post on perception!!!!

i'm too lazy to do it, but one of you eagerbeavers should go back and see how the final rankings treated butler those two yeras they finished runner-up in the tourney. they sure didn't go into the post-season ranked anything like 2nd.

Finishing runnerup in the national title basketball game is a different animal.

    I'm an eagerbeaver

2009-10 This Wikipedia LINK says the AP poll ranked them #11 going into the tourney (can't find final poll)
(coaches ranked them where they finished #2)

2010-11 Wikipedia LINK says the AP poll never ranked them all year.
(coaches ranked them where they finished #2)

it's not conceptually different; in the butler case, a tournament setting distilled them down to one of the final 2 teams standing. in softball, a tournament setting distilled them down to one of the final 8 teams standing. how is this not analogous? and i make no merits judgment here as to where lsu should be ranked in the s'ball polls---obvious to me the cajuns were the better team; i'm just suggesting that this poll recognition of where teams finish in tournaments is likely not a new notion.

Similar to how the BCS "makes" coaches vote the winners #1 ?

I don't think just making the tourney guarantees a team a top-64 ranking.
