I posted this on Delphi, too.
Well, since I can't wait for the next UL game, thought I would get some info on Alcorn State for us to ponder with until Monday.
According to Collegerpi.com
Alcorn State(1-5)
RPI: 148 (NOT including their loss to Arkansas-Little Rock)
L at Southern Miss(5-1, RPI 64), 78-70
L at Baylor (5-1, RPI 208) 81-61
W at UTEP(1-4, RPI 229) 67-53
L at Jacksonville State(4-0, RPI 88), 75-72
L at S. Florida(4-1, RPI N/A), 81-62
L at Arkansas Little-Rock(4-3, RPI N/A), 68-58
they Play Jacksonville State on Saturday, then travel to meet us on Monday.
Leading Scorers:
Lee Cook, 6-10, 230 pounds
22.3ppg, 9.8rpg (leading rebounder and scorer)
Tori Harris, 6-4, 180 lbs.
10.3 ppg, 4.5rpg, 30% 3 point range
Best three point shooter is Brain Jackson, (10-21) 47%, Jason Cable (6-14), 42%,
Lee Cook is their go to man. Being that he is 6-10, he will give a good match inside. This guy is also just a sophomore. Alcorn State also has 11 guys that play nine minutes are more, with the tenth guy averagin nearly 17 minutes, so they play alot of people.
This was their probale starting lineup against UALR, their most recent game:
F- #31 Dion Callans (6-8, 195 Jr., 8ppg, 5.7rpg)
F- #33 Brian Jackson (6-6, 205 Jr.,7ppg, 3.8rpg)
C- #23 Lee Cook (6-10, 230 Jr., 22.3ppg, 9.8rpg)
G- #55 Alleo Frazier ( 5-6, 165 Fr., 2.8ppg, 2.0rpg)
G-#20 Jason Cable (6-2, 200 Sr., 5.0ppg, 1.8rpg)
Reserves
G-#4 Tori Harris (6-4, 180 Sr., 10.8ppg, 4.6rpg)
G- #2 DeAndre Jones (6-4, 205 Fr., 10.3ppg, 4.0rpg)
G-#10 Cory Jackson (5-11, 165 So., 2.4ppg, 2.0 apg)
Harris usually starts, but didn't for some reason.
they have a 6-10, 6-9 guy that comes off the bench also, so they have plenty of height. I am interested to see how good their big man is.
Don't forget this team was the 2002 SWAC champion last year. They were 20-9, 16-2 in SWAC play. They are picked by many to win it again this year. They have one of the best frontcourts in SWAC. They lost two talented big men from last year's team, and are waiting for Cook to develop into the player they thought he would be. But this might be his year. Jackson, Cable, and Harris balance it out outside. Not a bad team. We might be in for a better game than we thought if we are not prepared for these guys. Anyway, just my thoughts
