The only thing that sort of troubled me was the missed recruiting opportunity during the season when the track and field team had no track to call their own.

I see how that reads and let me explain. The year the new track was going up should have been the golden era in UL recruiting. No track of our own but a new track coming allows the recruits to imagine anything under the sun.

Just like football right now, the recruiting tool known as the indoor practice facility will never be as good a recruiting tool as it is right now. There is no recruiting tool as good as a person’s imagination.

I read once where not having a track for a year hurt recruiting. If true I think it a missed opportunity.

they have been using "we will have a new track" for over 10 years and the area coaches know this.

other programs in the state care about track and will continue to kick our butss. they are Northwestern, La Tech, SLU and LSU.

AUSTIN, Texas- Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns track and field teams competed in one event in day one of the Texas Relays. Senior D.J. Hebert placed sixth in the men’s 3000 meter steeplechase. AUSTIN, Texas- Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns men’s track and field team competed in four preliminary events in the Texas Relays in Friday. Freshman Justin Arceneaux finished sixth in heat four of the 100 meter dash preliminaries, recording a time of 10.62 seconds. Arceneaux placed 23rd overall out of 54 competitors. In the men’s 110 meter hurdles preliminaries, Kyle Ward placed third in heat five, posting a time of14.62 seconds. Ward finished 36th overall. The event consisted of 45 competitors. The UL men’s 4X100 meter relay team finished fifth in heat four of the preliminaries, recording a time of 41.43 seconds. The team finished 15th overall. The 4X400 meter relay team posted a time of 3:16.87. The time was good enough for a fifth place finish in heat two. The team finished 27th overall. The Texas Relays conclude Saturday, April 7. NATCHITOCHES, La.-Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns track and field teams competed in the NSU Invitational on Saturday. Finishing sixth in their division. For the UL men, Kyle Ward had the best finish of the day. The junior placed first in the 110 meter hurdles, recording a time of 14.46 seconds. Luke Moody finished fourth with a time of 14.81 seconds. Joseph Dickens recorded a second place finish in the triple jump. Dickens had a jump of 48-4 ¾. Jordon Folse placed third in the men’s shot put, followed by Brad Bustle, who placed fourth. Folse recorded a distance of 41-9 3/4, while Bustle recorded a distance of 39-9 3/4. Qeunton Jones placed fifth in the 400 meter hurdles. Jones recorded a time of 56.86 seconds. Herman Clark also competed in the event. The UL Ragin' Cajun men captured a third place finish in the 4X100 meter relay with a time of 42.67 seconds. NATCHITOCHES, La.-Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns track and field team competed in the NSU Invitational on Saturday. Finishing sixth in their division. UL's Cherise Gautreaux placed third in the javelin throw. Gautreaux recorded a distance of 122-01. Amy Doucet placed fifth with a distance of 110-03. In the women’s long jump, Toni Lee placed third for UL. Lee recorded a jump of 17-11. Kioloni Readeaux placed sixth, and Latoya Celestine placed seventh. Lee also picked up a fifth placed finish in the triple jump. Danielle Favinger finished fifth in the 400 meter hurdles for the UL women. Favinger recorded a time of 1:10.72. MONROE, La.- Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns men's and women's track and field teams competed at the ULM Warhawk Classic on Saturday. Both teams captured a number of awards. In women's action, the Cajuns took home two first place finishes. Jasmine Collins placed first in the 800 meter run, clocking in at 19.60 seconds. Toni Lee finished first in the long jump, recording a jump of 17-08.75. Kayla Vice placed second in the pole vault, recording a height of 11-05.75, while Kioloni Readeaux placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 39-08.00. In the 5000 meter run, Callie Picou finished fourth with a time of 20:33.45. GULF SHORES -- Moments after failing to clear 6 feet, 6 inches on his third and final high jump attempt, Foley's Julio Jones knelt on the mat and cupped his hands to his head. Maybe next year, he thought. Jones, a blue-chip football prospect and one of the favorites to claim the high jump at the 4A-6A state track and field championships Friday and Saturday in Gulf Shores, was expecting to win. His season high was 6-8, but a tweaked hamstring held him back a bit and his fourth-place finish Friday was a disappointment. Then, just like that, it was forgotten. It was time to move on to the next event. Satsuma's Fabian Adams also had a rough day in the high jump, clearing 6-4 to finish tied for fourth with Jones. Granted, the Gators' four-sport athlete and Louisiana-Lafayette football signee had only begun to run track this year, but he was expecting better. I tell you , there is a dischler kid in Crowley that can flat fly in the long distances. I sure wish UL could ahve gotten him, i think he's going to nackodish.

No you did not miss the firing of LV. If I were betting, I would bet they will let him resign after the conference meet when the cajuns finish at the bottom of the heap again.

The runner you mention from ND will go to Nachitoches, to stay close to home. He is not someone who would have taken the Cajuns to the promised land and would not have scored a point in the Sun Belt. Besides, a new coach will want to spend scholarship money on someone who can. The VC state champ is set to come in and he is a better catch. (No offense to the NDamers who think acadiana athletes are a god-send), which is why LV will be leaving. He put too much stock in them and they didn't produce conference points.

The big problem with UL track is the lack of a throws coach, and inconsistant jumps coaching. Our performances on the track are pretty much where they have always been; but the 60 points or so we have traditionally scored in the throws at the Conference meet have been reduced to maybe 5, and our jumps scoring has fallen from 40-50 down to 10-20. In the not-so-distant past, the Cajun men would exit the field events with 100 - 110 points and hold on to win the comference with 140-150. Now we exit the field with 25 and finish with 65.

It is not a case of Acadiana athletes not producing points. It is a case of Acadiana being a hotbed of D1 caliber throwers and jumpers, and a not-so-good area for track events. By putting emphasis on the track rather than the ring or runway, UL track is no longer playing to its strength.
