For example if you redshirt everybody and nobody transfers or quits, you can only offer 17 a year. In five years you are at the maximum.

Is that why coach only took 17 last year?

UL Football UL picks up Haynesville commitment

A small class of visitors still netted yet another commitment for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

The Ragin’ Cajuns added two-way Haynesville performer Fernandez Kingsby (5-foot-11, 175-pounder) for their 11th overall commitment, including 10 from high school prospects.

UL has already signed six junior college prospects and offensive lineman Will Chance was a mid-term graduate of Cecilia and will enroll with all six junior college signees.

Kingsby was selected to the All-Area team by the Shreveport Times after rushing for nearly 400 yards, collecting 45 tackles and averaging 29 yards per punt return.

  11. UL Football 17 is all that we had last year

CDeb is right, you can sign 25 a year, with a total number of 85 scholarships. You can't give half scholarships in I-A football. You can also sign "midyear replacements" (JUCO kids or eary graduating high schools seniors) which count towards your next academic year counters. The number of "midyear replacements" you can sign is related to the number of graduating seniors or players you lose. This helps you get to your 85.

Bustle signed the max number of scholarships that were available at the time last year. Bustle didn't have the luxury of holding a few extra for this year. If he would have had 25, he would have signed 25. 17 was the max number of scholarships that were available after Baldwin put a bunch of people on scholarship during Fall 2001. Bustle then inherited the problem of only being left with 17 scholarships for his first class. Little by little, players have left the program and Bustle now can sign 25 this year and still have some left over to give to walk-ons, or props that make their grades. A prop must pay their own way through school the first year. If they make satisfactory academic progress, they will be awarded a scholarship. Bustle also inherited some props from Baldwin. 3 made it through the year (Dwight Lindon, Bill Sampy and Jamarcus Edwards), and from what I understand they are on scholarship, or will be on scholarship.

The JUCO DB's name is CC Brown, not CC Davis.

Also, the big ragoo doesn't want to split hairs with you, but James Jordan was not offered a scholarship to UL since we are already full at OL. The only OL we will offer will be a JUCO tackle at this point because we need the help there immediately. James Jordan was a good player, but was not offered by UL. The three high school commitments that we received (Leger, Chance, & Clark) were all rated higher than Jordan in the eyes of our coaches, and with Cox and Glover coming in, as well as Fane and a JUCO tackle there was no room for another high school lineman. We did not lose James Jordan because of facilities, we lost him because we didn't offer him a scholarship. He can say whatever he likes about McNeese vs UL, but it's probably all sour grapes on his part.

You are right though, it's not always facilties. Our coaches and players do a great job of recruiting. The big ragoo just would just like to imagine the type of recruiting class our coaches could put together with first class facilities.
